So I know this is probably an age-old question at this point and probably a very exhausted one at that but with the gouged pricings and raising prices going on nowadays I was looking into what I could potentially buy in the coming months for a upgrade; and also see what people might think is best at this point in time.
Currently my Rig is as is:
R7 3700X
32GB DDR4 3200 CL16 G.Skill Trident RGB Kit
EVGA GTX 1080 FTW
650W Sea Sonic FOCUS Gold Fully Modular PSU

ASUS PG279QZ Monitor (1440p144) and LG B9 OLED (4K120 or 1440p120)
I've been holding out on a GPU upgrade for quite sometime now, been using this GTX 1080 since my last Sandy Bridge build so it's been a few years already. When I initially built this in 2019 I've been saving some money since early last year for a new GPU upgrade but with the whole out of stock thing it's been quite a struggle obviously. Now I'm just seeing what could be the better bang for my buck purchase going forward. There's also a chance I'd have to upgrade my current PSU to a 750W/850W (depending what's in stock and more reasonably priced) if I do choose a 3080 so factor that into the price as well.
I game a decent amount with some FPS titles, I mostly play Warzone on the side and tried out recent titles such as Cyberpunk 2077, RE3, and I'm also looking forward to trying out Doom Eternal still and RE8 down the line. I noticed 1440p is starting to chug a bit on my old 1080 so now I'm just looking for a solid upgrade at this point complimenting the monitor specs in mind without being unreasonable with the price. I'm also factoring in trying out DLSS and maybe some Ray Tracing in select games to take more advantage of my 4K Panel down the line as well. What do you guys think? Thanks for reading me out! I know some would probably recommend a RX 6800 but unfortunately my current main monitor is tied to G-sync so I'm sort of forced into buying a nvidia card unless you guys can shed some light on that but I did my research regarding that issue and I came to that conclusion.

3070 should have you covered at 1440p. Especially with the cost between 70 and 80 being so much. (uk 70 is £600 or so and 80 is £900)

Well for 4K you would innitially want a 3080,especially if you want all that eye candy.
I would avoid the 3070,3060Ti performs the same for a cheaper price.
Just see what you have in stock right now.
That is ideal but I rarely touch 4K as is. Only on select optimized games. I'm just focusing on 1440p for now. And a 3060 Ti over a 3070? Interesting take but if the MSRP was more attractive for the 60 Ti I'd probably take it. Would rather have that extra little boost.

I thought u were going to game at 4K max eye candy and everything.
But a 3060Ti is enough for 4K,and yes i would get it over 3070

With the 3700 I would go with the 3070 it's a good cpu but would slightly bottle neck a 3080 so you wouldn't see much difference from a 3070 to 3080 in that current set up if you really want the 3080 I would slightly upgrade the cpu as well .

I’m running a 3080 with a 3700x and game at both 1440p 144Hz and 4K 120Hz. There is no sign the cpu is limiting. In a few games I still don’t max out settings even at 1440p if I want 140+ FPS. The gpu is still the limiting factor at 1440p/4K for modern AAA games.

If you threw in a 3070 you would get almost the same performance in that setup maybe a very small increase depending on what game . I've tested it out . But when using a slightly better cpu with the 3080 is when I saw a pretty big performance increase . And always saw slightly more fps with Intel for some reason I'm a fan of both but there was usually a 5 to 20 fps difference from using an Intel even when using very similar specd. CPUs.

At 1440p even the 3300x does a great job paired with the 3080 in this review. A 3700X is not an issue to pair with a 3080. Yes you can get a few extra fps with the latest top end cpu's but its going to make no meaningful difference to performance. The 3700x and 3080 is a great combo for 1440p & 4k. It was a massive upgrade over my old 2080 Super and 3700x. CPU Bottlenecking the RTX 3080 - Ryzen 3 to Core i9 - YouTube
