Question 3200mhz C16 vs 3600mhz C18 for Ryzen.

What one should I buy for first-gen Ryzen (1800x)
The ram I want is Corsair Vengence RGB Pro.
2x8gb.
My current ram is 2x8gb Corsair Vengence RGB 2666mhz.

What mobo do you have? If it's a B350 I wouldn't waste time with the 3600mhz ram. it won't run at it's rated speed. Even the 3200mhz may not run at it's rated speed on a B350.

The 3600 mhz won't work as the mobo probably only supports 3000mhz/3200mhz (OC). I went for 3000mhz and OCd to 3200Mhz on a B450. It works great.

I updated to the most recent bios, and it says I can run ram up to 4.2ghz. not sure though, the 3200 was more expensive

Officially, it only supports up to a max of 3200MHz, once you have XMP enabled. Over that won't be officially supported, and you might struggle. Either go for a max of 3200MHz, or 3000MHz, or get 3000MHz and overclock to 3200MHz.

More often than not, you would only be able to get 3000mhz DIMMS running at 2933mhz on a B350. You could use the Ryzen Dram Calculator to help hit 3000mhz. But 3200mhz is just not guaranteed to work. So hit and miss.

I would try using the DRAM Calculator for Ryzen and see if your current RAM will run at 2933 or 3000 MHz before buying a new kit.
