A question that no doubt has been frequently asked, however I can never find anything definitive to my question. Thinking of selling my i7 4790k and memory, for a R5 2600, with a MSI B450 Tomahawk, and then upgrade the chip with Zen 2 comes out later this year, however, having searched reasonably extensivly on DRAM timings vs DRAM speed, I cannot find anything conclusive on shelling out the extra money for CL14 as the price differential seems ludicrous for 16gb RAM, I was wondering for a guy that pro-dominantly plays games, if the margin is worth it, or whether upgrading a newer chipset is worth it at all, I play at 1080p high refresh, just wouldn't mind something more future proof, as the upgrade path for Ryzen is clearly a good selling point.

Thanks!

Well that's not really true is it?
The thing with Ryzen processors is that it depends on the ram speed and latency to gain the speed of internal core latency, which also means IPC or Instructions Per Clock performance.

The performance gain is almost similar to a setup with dual channel ram from a single channel ram.
Multiple tests shows that running with 4 ram modules instead of 2, also gains fps in games.

Take 2x8GB 3200MHz G. Skill Ripjaws CL16 vs 4x4GB or 4x8GB 3200MHz G. Skill TridentZ CL14, you'll see a game performance gain of at least 10% more fps.
Not to mention the much lower compute time latency and less diving frames in games.

It's worth every penny if you ask me :)
