32bit, or 64bit?

Okay, so a few months ago, I moved from 32bit Windows 7, to 64bit Windows 7 in order to support the 4GB of ram in my rig.
Problem is, ever since then, I've had 2 problems.
First off, W7 64bit will only operate correctly if I downclock the RAM to 667mhz (otherwise everything crashes, BSOD or black screens).
And the really annoying problem, is that a lot of my games don't play as well, eg. TF2, I average around 50fps, somtimes dips as low as 30, and I used to be able to get constant 75fps with vsync ON.

Should I go back to 32bit and sacrifice some of my ram, or does this sound like another problem?
Just for the record, I've tried running 64bit with the 2GB at 800MHz like I used to with 32bit, but it made no difference.

Just incase it helps, I have a Q6600 2.8GHz, 4GB 800MHz DDR2 RAM, and a GTX465 1GB 800/1900.

Nope, your rig and OS should be fine. I run 7 x 64 on everything capable -- just do some troubleshooting and fix the problem. What motherboard, maybe you need a BIOS update? Runs smooth for me on everything from P35 onward.

could you try some different ram? 32 and 64 bit does address the ram differently, but it should make no difference from a hardware standpoint. Perhaps there is something wrong with the motherboard or Ram that is not allowing it to read/write correctly.

If swaping out the ram does not work then I would stick with the 32 bit until you upgrade your system.

You should not need to downgrade to 32 bit. Is all the ram matched for specs, timings and voltage?

Try the suggestion of checking on an update for your bios first. If that is in order we'll check the next step.

Can u try to swap the RAM sticks to different slots?
