32gb flash drive

I bought a 32gb flash drive but my computer won't recognize it. How can I format the flash drive? It's been too long to take it back. Can someone help me figure this out (without getting rude, please).

What OS do you have on your computer? I have Windows 7, and have just bought a few 32GB and 64GB Flash drives (Amazon had a sale) and I have no problem with my computer recognizing the drive.

It will also be useful to know which OS you have as it may affect the instructions on how to attempt diagnostic or formatting procedures.
