Hey, I have a XP1800, but i pushed the fsb up a bit so it is at XP2000 levels (stable). I was wondering if i would really gain anything from unlocking this cpu and running it at 10x166 since I saw that there was a performance increase with the 2700+ and 2800+ with 333 fsb. I have a soltek KT333 board so I am pretty sure my board will handle it.

Is it really worth the money/time/danger to unlock my cpu?

Any links and reviews would be helpful...

Oh yeah "sharkyextreme" reviewed the 2700+ on a KT333 board and it was competitive with the intel 2.8 so it seems there is still some life left in KT333...

Haven't check sharkyextreme, but for what I see in Ace's review (very good), most of the benefit comes from nvidia mobo. So I guess if you already overclock your CPU to 2000+, unlocking and going to 166FSB won't give you too much, or maybe even less. Why? I don't know, but if your mobo don't fix AGP and PCI buses, means that they are currently running over specs and so, giving an extra performance (or course, at cost of stress).

So my vote goes for don't unlock, you are better right now and the risk/work/money is not worth.

The only major hastle would be the multipliers, allthough im assuming that you have unlocked the CPU sucessfully.

A while back i had an unlocked tbird 1200C. it would run quite nicely up to 1450mhz, so i could either run it at 10.5x133=1400 or better yet, 8.5x166=1415mhz.
This was on my epox 8k3a+, and it was highly stable, the extra bandwidth helping with things like Divx encoding

so assuming you have unlocked your cpu, your rams runs well at 166mhz, and the northbridge is sufficiently cooled there should be no problems.

I heard some talk about the KT333 not having a 5.1 PCI devider or something or the other... what does this mean?
