Hi

I am thinking of getting a new monitor and was wondering on your opinions as to whether i should spend a little more to get the 3440x1440 res or if i should go with the cheaper option, if anyone has any experience with these resolutions i would be glad to know what you think.

Also i will be using this monitor for gaming and general use.

Thanks :)

If you have the spare cash the 3440x1440 is 100% the better option especially for gaming, there isn't any spec on the screen other then highest supported resolution but I can assume that the higher resolution screen with have a better refresh rate probably up to 70hz with a better DPI and sharpness.

But it all depends on how much you are actually going to utilise that resolution, if you are gaming but not playing games that support that resolution like witcher 3 or tomb raider which look fantastic in a higher native resolution.
If you are casual gaming then you may not reap as much benefits on the 3440x1440 for the price compared to the 2560x1080.

Agree with both the above responders.

I have a curved Acer X34 G-sync Predator running with an i5-4670 and a single GTX 980Ti and get 3440 x1440 in 21:9 at 95Hz for both Witcher 3 and Rise of the Tomb Raider. Great experience.

I like to take my time in games and savour scouring every nook and cranny so it took me many months to do both these games, and am now waiting for the new Deus-Ex, which I expect will have native 21:9 Uktra widescreen availability, but we shall see. Meantime am enjoying going back into ROTTR again for the chapters following the Research Base section.

Maybe all games don't yet support 21:9 but so long as there's one available - that's good enough for me. Whether it's good enough for others is another matter. WSGF is one of several helpful Forums that can give assistance on any necessary tweaking and also give an indication of what may be presently available for Widescreen and Ultra Widescreen.

Hope you enjoy whatever choice you make.
