[citation][nom]DaddyW123[/nom]So that whole pre-order thing is crap in my opinion.[/citation]
I haven't heard any reports yet on actual sales from batch 1. I have a youtube vid up about it(link in a prior post), and have had a few interesting comments, and have heard that alot of shopping cart errors have happened, but will be fixed(all reports from all my communications refer to batch 2)....but still no word on Farnell stock. They either sold privately(which we were promised wouldn't happen, and I believe is NOT the case), or they simply are NOT getting any of batch 1, and RS is getting ALL 10,000 units. This is very possible, and could be the reason for all the confusion.
Prior to Pi's site going black(static) it was already stated that the stock wouldn't arrive for another 7-10 days. Then they suddenly told us to stay tuned on the night/day(depending on your time zone{midnight here}) for a huge announcement. I personally hoped for the best, in that stock had arrived earlier then expected, and at worst it was a pre-sale( a week ain't so bad). Many reports have pointed to a total sell out, but I say something is fishy.
One of a few things has happened:
1. False reports of a sell out and Farnell is getting any of Batch 1
2. Farnell sold their units and I simply haven't heard word
3. Farnell sold privately(I don't believe this in the slightest)
Then there is the final possibility, and that is an Apple move, and if you don't know what that is, then I'll explain :
1. Hype a product
2. Set a release date
3. Release an amount BELOW known demand
4. Let simmer for a SHORT time
5. Rinse and repeat
Apple has been known to do this time and time again to help further demand by making folks talk, discuss, anticipate, and envy those who already have the cool new thing. I'm not saying this is what is happening, but if it is, then Kudo's....If not, ride the wave Raspberry Pi, and start adopting the method, cause it works
In the mean time I suggest you register at RS, because word is that they ARE getting part(or maybe all?) of batch 1 in a week and a day or two. They will NOT be selling through a normal online marketplace where you have to hit f5 in hopes of getting a server response, but are going about it in a much more civilized manner that will reduce crashing of their servers, and that is by signing up to show your interest. When you sign up you are placed in line to be able to purchase a unit from batch 1....if you aren't already too late.
