I went with AMD instead of Intel cause im getting ready for the new Bulldozer coming out. This build is only $2700. IF you have a better build I could get with $3500, or have suggestions for me please comment. This is my first computer build and this will be for extreme gaming. I need some help folks! =)

UP the power supply to 1200w and get another video card. Also, why not get an FX990 motherboard instead of the 890?

Well, you should buy a Bulldozer ready AM3+ motherboard for starters. That CPU only has a dual channel memory controller, either get 2 or 4 sticks of RAM. The HDD hardly seems worth it, get a SpinPoint for 50$ and same perf. A magnetic HDD cannot even keep a SATAII channel fed, no point paying extra for SATA3 parts.

Its better if you wait till october atleast or early november, to finalise your build. What with the AMD releasing 7000 GPU series and bulldozer, its worth to wait a few weeks. GL.

That means a Bulldozer will work, but not with full functionality. For that you will need a AM3+ 900-series chip.

Just think if you're spending that much money you should go with an i7-2600K and skip the AMD.

I was told buying quad core is better for gaming. Thats the only reason why. I dont need a 2nd video card since I am getting a 6990.

I am going to wait but I dont think I need the 7000 series GPY. The 6990 is beast as it is and can play any game max graphics. If you had my budget what would you build. If you dont mind spending the time to show me! =)

I thought about that too. BUT if the Bulldozer is that badass I want to be ready for it. Since the GPU im getting is AMD, isnt it better to have more AMD parts?? Honest question, I feel like ima get trolled for asking that lol

IDK.. If that's what makes your mouth water then you go for it!!

Myself though I would change the following:

1.)Get a AM3+ 990 series mobo.. no doubt...
2.)If we want to be bulldozer ready... You can get that chip.. or save a few bucks and grab yourself a 955 or an 840 or something to hold you over, if its just going to be replaced anyway.
3.) Xfire a pair of unlocked 6950's or 570/580's... If your not a fan of Xfire/SLI... than that's an OK choice...( if you are really lucky, 7xxx may be out by then!?)
4.) There are better CPU coolers for a lot less...

Whatever the case... That is quite a purse to build a great machine. Spend it wisely!

Edit: It doesn't really matter anymore which GPU your pair with your platform. It is usually personal preference, or a best bang/buck type deal. The pricing is not very one-sided at the moment, so do some research and see what you like. Personally, with that cash I would SLI dual 580's (maybe even hyrdocopper mmm yum!), but its really overkill unless your running at a serious resolution. AMD usually is better on power consumption, and nVidia has a slight edge in performance (and the fastest single GPU card ). IMHO, i think that the 6950's unlocked to 6970 specs is the best bang/buck (single or Xfired).

No, doesn't make a difference. I also wouldn't drop that much cash on a GPU unless you really have money to burn. I mean you use it for toilet paper. A $270 6970 can more than handle today's and tomorrow's games with ease. Or, get a 6950 for $220 and unlock and overclock it to 6970. I don't really see why you want to drop another $550 just for the hell of it.

I'm not ragging on you or anything, I'm trying to save you some money. It's not worth it to throw that much cash away (which is essentially what you are doing) on a build unless you have some serious dough, which few of us have. It's better to stretch that $3500 over 7 years upgrading a part every 1-2 years.

And no offense, but it feels like you're throwing in parts just because they're expensive without any real need for them. A $100 Network Inteface Card, really? $130 for a cooler? 12GB of RAM? You realize that the Phenom platform only works on dual channel memory so that set-up won't work. And $300 for a case? It better lift-off for that price. $350 on a power supply? Sweet Jesus!

For example, it's better to get a 955 and overclock it instead of buying the 980 which basically already overclocked. Also, like I said for the money, add $40 to that processor and get an i5-2500K for $180 at Microcenter or $200 anywhere else. Pair it with a ASRock Extreme3 Z68, $125 anywhere, and you have a killer combination just like that. Ask around if you don't believe me. For less than $300 those two parts destroy your whole system and put it to shame. Sad, but true. Not being a prick, I have a much weaker system, just being honest.

So far we have:

i5-2500K - $180
ASRock Extreme3 Z68 - $125

then add a good video card:

6950 - $250
2 x 4GB of Ram (any ram) - $50
Add in a popular, high quality case (it's popular for a reason) such as an Antec 900 - $100
Then get a high quality Seasonic USA power supply for $150
WD Black 1TB - $80

So for about $900 you have a high quality, overclocking monster machine, that can max out virtually every game and application that you'll use. Oh did I mention you also have a cool $2500 in your pocket for anything you want or for future upgrades.

Hope I saved you some money. Why spend good hard earned money for nothing?

Oh PS. Try to buy your build on Black Friday, you'll save a lot of cash.
