OMG, that's the only way I can describe what you've just said.

You said best value, Linux and Core i7 975, GTX 295 in the same post.

If you have enough money to actually build that, you sure as hell have enough money to buy Windows Vista.

I'll correct this for you,

Ubuntu Build,

Intel E5200
Stock heatsink
G31 motherboard
2x1GB 667MHz Generic memory
Rosewill case and 500w PSU
Hitachi 250GB 7200rpm HDD.

Uber powerful build,

Intel i7-975
Cooler Express 2009 single socket Evaporator Cooling kit + LGA1366 socket kit
ASUS P6T7
Kingston 1600MHz 12GB (3x4GB) memory
PCP&C 1200w PSU
ASUS dual fan TOP 4890 1GB (Four of these)
Lian Li TYR PC-X2000
4x 160GB Intel 34nm SSD's in Raid 0 or 1+0

take your pick, the absolute Top-end PC, or the Ubuntu PC.

Thanks helloworld.
I changed my configuration now to the following.

Intel i7-975
ASUS P6T7
PCP&C 1200w PSU
CORSAIR DOMINATOR 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240
Western Digital Caviar Black WD6401AALS 640GB 7200 RPM
EVGA 017-P3-1295-AR CO-OP Edition GeForce GTX 295
COOLER MASTER V8

What do you suggest I use for the computer case which will go with p6t6 and PSU. Do you suggest any more upgrades which will give nice bang for buck. I plan to use the machine as a server along with some desktop operations.

Thanks a lot.

what exactly is the server for?

even then you don't need to spend so much, drop down to a P6T motherboard and a 4850 graphics card, and you'll only need a 650w PSU, I'd recommend the OCZ Z-series since this is to be a server and the OCZ Z-series have a Gold 80Plus rating.

and drop down the CPU to a i7 920, the 975 won't offer much of an increase, especially when both are overclocked.

For a cooler get a corsair H50 instead, it will give better cooling and overclocking results and be a lot quieter.

12GB of ram will help too, and for storage, I'd recommend getting two Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB drives in Raid 1.

Server will run a web server, SQL Server and lot of threads in it. Pure HP processing. I am not planning to over clock it as I am not much familiar with the concepts. Even if I end up over clocking more the marry.

if lots of threads, why not go dual LGA1366 with Xeons

Board: SUPERMICRO MBD-X8DAH+-O $500

CPU: 2 x Intel Xeon E5530 Nehalem 2.4GHz $1080

MEM: 2 x SUPER TALENT 12GB (3 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 1333 $740
