I ended up ordering a Zalman 7700. Chances are, I'll get it Monday, since I went for 3 day free shipping.
Got that HSF for 48.99. Thought it was a nice deal, since CompUSA had it, but it was the 7000 for 49.99+tax. So, I guess more time is all thats going to cost me.
Hopefully this monster copper HSF will fit. My RAM is kinda close to the CPU, and I kinda fear that it maybe too big. I think I should be okay on it.
But once I get it installed.. I'll prolly let you guys know how my P4 northy will do with it.
As far as temp... 60+C can be a pain, since it does warm things up in the case. Yes, its under the thermal limit (80+C I'm guess max, some say 90+C).
But if you can get the temps down below 50C (40-47C), I believe things will be much cooler, since the PSU needs cool air, but is getting hot air from the CPU (depending on case exhaust), and how long you run it under stress.
That would be why most peeps (my guess) are concerned about those temps in the 60's (looking at the overall temp, the PC produces). At stock speeds my stock HSF gets 55-57C on full load. A OC to 3ghz, full load on it is 63-65C. But of course I know were talking AMD rather then Intel here. (But northys are supposively cooler then prescotts, but for some reason, I'm not seeing it).
