Title says 9900K, poll says 9700K....

I'd personally choose 9900KF, even if it cost another $100-$150....

Does not mean you would not be perfectly happy with 3700X, however, especially with typical RTX2060 or below GPU, where performance differences are then quite likely to be sub-2%..

GIven a limited budget, I'd much rather have the 3700X and a 2070 Super than a 9700K/9900K paired with an RX580 or below...if gaming is a concern.

If strictly a video/content creation, get the 3700/3700X, save the $200 or so, and call it a day.

right now $524.98 3700x with tuf but there are some complaints about the heatsink fan. i have always had asus 990fx sabertooth 8350 @4.5 went with amd back then because they were the underdog and thats what i could afford ad it still kicks butt with a rx570. but i want to upgrade and need to build my son a rig so i figure i upgrade and pass this on to him. now i feel like intel is the underdog ad maybe i shoul do it just because. but then i like the idea of a all amd rig with the only pci 4.0 gpu one the market rx5700 with 3700x.

i just recently bought and built my own computer, I did this combo on a b450 mobo. I couldnt get it to post at all. bought a second 3700x and mobo brought it to a buddy that builds computer, also wouldnt post. brought all parts to an IT guy at my company, couldnt get anything to work. AMD told me to return both CPU they were rma/doa and MSI told me to return both mobo as they werent compatible with the 3700. both websites state they are compatible.

I am now using Intel i7 9900k on an MSI intel MOBO, with the rx 5700 and I have had nothing but issues with the GPU. it wont run anything over 60hz without flickering

If your looking for simple plug and play with great support, I Highly suggest spending the extra money and go Intel. I even plan on changing out the rx 5700 (after buying a freesync monitor) to go to an ALL INTEL build

It sounds like you, your buddy and your IT guy all needed to learn do some research and how to update a BIOS.
If your B450 MB didn't have the Ryzen 3000 Desktop Ready sticker on the Box then it needed a BIOS update to be able to run the 3700x.
You could have had a local PC shop update the BIOS for a small fee and the 3700x would have worked fine.
I have a 3700x on my Asus ROG Strix B450-F motherboard and it works Great.

both mobos had the sticker on the box. the instructions even had a note that it was ready for 3000 series AMD.

I dont know how to update the bios so I brought it to other people who did know how to flash/ update the bios in hopes that it was that. (The IT guy at my company has built multiple AMD computers, he was even using a 3700x on his personal computer)

I would've loved to have an all AMD build, (my wallet would've been even happier)

when i was at guardian Con. the AMD computers ran beautifully.
