Hey guys, can anyone tell me if the ryzen 7 3700x will be good paired with the 3070? On low settings fortnite 1080p with a 240hz monitor? I’ve seen people say the 3700x won’t bottleneck but also saw people say it will on 1080p, basically just wanna hold 240fps consistently, cheers 👍

Solution
The 3700X is a very solid cpu, I have no idea who told you that.

On 1080p, the load is lessened on the gpu, making it easier for the cpu to be the bottleneck, but even this is actually an edge case.
Say you have a 3090, and pair it with a ryzen 3.
In 4k you might not even notice a change in performance between a ryzen 3 and ryzen 9, for raw average fps (frametimes might be bad though, but that's a different story)
in 1080 you will DEFINETLY see a difference.

But the 3700X is a very solid cpu that won't bottleneck even the strongest of gpus for a while.

I don't disagree. But for raw 1080p performance the 5600x is the best budget cpu so far.
Agree especially if building a pc aimed at esports where they seem to want as many FPS as possible. I own a 3700x paired with a RTX 3080 so am familiar with a similar combination. If gaming at high Hz 1080p I do not see a reason to pick the 3700x over the 5600x, some games see in excess of 20% gains on the 5600x in cpu bound 1080p scenarios.

Ill be buying my pc from a custom built pc shop as i know absolutely nothing about building them etc.. and as of right now they dont have any zen3 cpus available only the 3700x that fits in my budget, have until the end of the month before i can buy so praying they will have zen3 in stock. Good to see that the 3700x will do the job as well though, thanks for the replies 👍

With all due respect, you will be crazy not to wait for 5600x. I've been researching for months on this matter of 240hz esports.
Ive been waiting months on getting my new pc got my 240hz here and i cant use it with my current pc as it cant hold no where near 240fps if theres no 5600x in stock by pc shop end of this month then it has to be the 3700x cant wait any longer 🤣🤣 will defo upgrade to the 5600x or 5800x when stock is chilling but as long as 3700x can hold me 240fps until then i dont mind buying another cpu later.

I ended up going for 3070 rog strix and 5800x for a 240hz IPS monitor. I am not sure on 3700x FPS as I never researched it, but if it can do what you need then there is really no need to pay more or wait is there. But I see we are after the same gaming experience so good luck to you in the esports m8.

UPDATE: anyone in the same boat as me deciding if you should go with the 3700x then DONT... i ended up going with the 3700x and 3070 and i cant hold 240fps on fortnite low settings 1080p. It sits around 200 most of the time. I’ve debloated windows optimised my pc for gaming etc and it still cant hold 240fps.... honestly just wait for the 5600x stock to be chilling.
