Hello, guys, here is my problem.

i oced my 3770k to 4.5GHz with H100 cooling. everything seems fine beside my thread number on CPUz is only4. i thought 3770k should be 8 thread, so what's wrong here?

edit, i am using asus z77 v-pro MB. and corsair 1600 ram.

If you disabled HT, that's the problem! Hyperthreading is what turns your 4 core CPU into an 8 thread one.

Overclocking and hyperthreading are completely separate things. Hyperthreading gives a performance boost in some circumstances but not in others. That's true whether you've overclocked or not.

FYI HT might make your overclock unstable; that's why most overclocking guides have you disable it, and i would leave it off myself - no real use for HT on anything but synthetic benches, as games / apps don't use it (well.. a few do .. but if you use these, you'd know)

If this commentary were for me:
I do know that HT might get OC unstable. My main complain is with people that blindly follows a guide, clicking in whatever the guide says without knowing what he's doing. Like the case here, OP disabled HT without understanding that this is feature that enables 2 threads/core.

If this commentary weren't for me:
Yes, I do agree with you. But let's not forget the new rockstar game. Max Payne 3. It recommends a holy christ Intel i7 hexacore with hyperthreading activated!
