I live in Saudi Arabia and for some reason the retailers decided to stop importing 3570K, So now I'm left with two choices:

i7 3770K + Asrock Z77 Extreme 4 ~$500

Or

i5 4670K + Gigabyte Z87-D3HP ~480

Haswell prices are very high now here and they wont come down for at least a month and I wont wait any longer. (been waiting for the past 7 months)

So should I grab the i7 seeing that costs only about $20 more and I can handle that or should I go for the i5

Oh, and primary uses are gaming and movies, I dont see myself doing any video editing any time soon but I plan to keep this PC for atleast 5 years with no major updates (maybe add another 670 down the road).

Thanks for any help.

Okay, get it if you are sure that you won't upgrade soon. That is fine if you are not into...
I would go for the 3770k. In five years, and probably less, games may start utilising more than four cores, so this i7 will be able to give you extra gaming performance. That's also an excellent motherboard for overclocking, just make sure you get an adequate cooler to ensure you can get a great overclock.

If you are not into video editing and other stuff then the haswell i5 would be better since it is more future proof. I do not see a point in getting a dead socket. In about a year or two no one will even remember LGA 1155 anymore. Better go with LGA 1150 considering that it might be supported for atleast 2-3 more years.

One thing to note is I'm not an enthusiast, I wont be overclocking too high and I dont care about the latest and greatest, I dont see myself upgrading my pc (apart from storage) for at least 5 years to come if it lives that long.

If that is the case then go with i7 because after 5 years the socket LGA 1150 would be dead too. So yeah, go for the i7 if you are sure that you could keep up with it for so long. And by the way what are your needs? That is something we need to know for recommending things here at TomsHardware forums.

Im one of the few who see no point in putting money into 1155. Its a dead socket with no upgrade path except to buy a new motherboard and chip. With 1150 you can upgrade to broadwell if they actually give it to us.

He said that he would use this build for about 5 more years. And since the time frame is that long, i think getting a better processor is important over all upgradability, since he is not into much upgrading. He would have to replace his PC completely after 5 years anyway.

Well in 5 years he can buy a cheap Broadwell quad core instead of spending a lot more on a new board and chip

Okay, so since you are not into overclocking, hence go for the i7 4770 (non K version) and get a cheap z87 motherboard. It would serve you better and longer. Also can you send me the link of the store on Saudi Arabia from which you are getting the parts. Is it an online store.

Pick me a good combo eh?

Okay so spend around 40 dollars more (around 150 sar) and get Gigabyte Z87-D3HP for SR 700 along with i7 4770 for SR 1,330

CPU : i7 4770 : http://www.softland.com.sa/index.php?route=product/product&path=18_46&product_id=1813
Motherboard : Gigabyte GA-Z87-D3HP : http://www.softland.com.sa/index.php?route=product/product&path=25_163_164&product_id=1823

1330+700 = SR 2030 = 541.30 dollars. It would be like the best 40 extra dollars you would have ever spent.

Ofcourse you cannot overclock that chip, but at stock speeds it should be almost equal to the 4770K model. But it might help to keep everything more future proof, so that you can get a top of the line chip of the LGA 1150 around 4 years into the future and run the same rig more for about 2-3 more years with some minor upgrades. Ofcourse SSD's would be much cheaper by that time and RAM would be like 2 free with every i5 and 4 free with every i7.. Just kidding... 😀

So yeah, on the final note , spend 40 dollars (SR 150) more if you can and get best of both world.

So i think that pretty much sums it up.. :)

Believe me, that is a bad deal, please try your best to go for the LGA 1150 socket. That would be a better buy even for more money.

Did I mention I'm on a tight budget 😛 i.e I wanna save money in areas where I wont get a much more performance increase and 4670k is only about 5% faster than a 3570k and heats up more so in my opinion it isnt worth the extra $100.
And dont give me that dead socket b.s 😛 I'm building this system for 1 time with no intention of upgrading. 😀

Okay, get it if you are sure that you won't upgrade soon. That is fine if you are not into constant upgrading and stuff..

So, if you are done then select this as the best answer as it might help my rankings in the forums. :)
