PC Probe II indicates my CPU is running between 37c - 40c while doing light duty work (surfing TG forums, for example). I have a non-overclocked, water-cooled system as described below. Is this temperature normal?

Windows Vista Premium
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC
Corsair XMS2 TWIN2X2048-6400 2X1GB DDR2-800
Western Digital 150GB Raptor X
Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty Pro Series
Dell E207WFP & Samsung SyncMaster 213T
Asus Striker Extreme Motherboard
PC Power & Cooling Turbo-Cool 1KW-SR
Thermaltake Kandalf LCS VD4000WBS (no leaks)
Pioneer DVR-212D DVD/CD Writer
APC Back-UPS XS 1000

Sounds alright to me. :)

EDIT: Missed the watercooled part (somehow!)
That seems a bit high for a watercooled computer....perhaps the flow of water is somewhat restricted, or the thermal paste isn't applied correctly? (Nothing dangerous, just a little high....I originally thought you were using the Intel stock cooler.

That seems high for a watercooled Core 2, My E4300 sits around those temps in that situation and I'm running the stock air cooler, What's your ambient room temperature?

Room temp is hovering around 21c - 25c. I'm using Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste. It seems a bit high to me too. The manual for the LCS says the flow rate is 500 liters/hour and there aren't any kinks in the system. The waterblock is clamped to the CPU correctly, I think. Motherboard is running at 45c.

wow... your mobo shouldn't be having 45C temps. i have a non water cooled system ( p180b case ) and i have 39C

Yeah I wouln't follow me to closely as I don't have much experience with W/C'ing but that does seem too high. I suppose by motherboard you mean Northbridge? Is the northbridge water cooled? If it is not then that's fine but if it's also watercooled and still hitting 45 then your kit might not be working at full efficiency. Have you removed all bubbles from your circulation and all the other standard maintenance things? check everything is clamped on properly? What temps are your HDD's and GPU hitting (You can use a program called SpeedFan to check HDD temp's, google it, great program)

PC Probe II is reporting the motherboard is running at 45c. I'm not sure where the sensor is. There are heatpipes galore on this board, the Northbrige, Southbridge, and two others that I don't know what's being cooled. No bubbles in the system. I think the waterblock is clamped well enough to the CPU. I'm really worried about clamping it too tightly as I don't want to flex the motherboard too much. I don't know what maintenance to do to the watercooling system. I'm really new at this. I'll get speed fan ASAP, but I have to go to bed now - the alarm clock rings at 3:15am. Thanks, guys!

speedfan is the way to go. i have pc probe II and it gives me weird temps also. ( it tells me that my cpu is at 62 C - 67C ) when i know damn well it isn't

sounds about right.

but it maybe lower depending on ambient temps too.

also the gpu runs hotter anyway. it will add heat to your sys.

sli really bumped the temps up in my sys.

but that was with the bottom card and a stock hsf.
i had an a/f market cooler for both. but the bottom
card would not fit either of my cases with said hsf, had to use stock one.
didnt want to mod the cases

can you tell me your blocks and setup of your loop.

One waterkit does not merit the same results as another. This is a c ommon mistake found on this forum.

Koolance will not merit a medium end swiftech kit. Koolance thermaltake, and zalman are actually three things you should stay away from if excellent cooling is required.

But i need these bits of info b4 i can help you fix your loop, or advise you on how to fix it:

Watercooling Loop parts:
What is your pump?
What is your tube diameter?
Are you using full cover blocks on the 8800's?

If possible a picture would help me out even more. But yeah, if your using standard parts, and i mean like an apogee, with a hobby style radiator, then your loop is seriously out of wack. IF your using a koolance, thermaltake, or zalman, then NOPE! those kits perform about on par with a tuniq!

EDIT: oh your running a kandolf.....

Is your blocks on the loop as well? are they full cover? If thats the case, then thats the culprit. You got a major flow reduction by the FC block on that thermaltake Pump. There isnt much you can do about it besides change your entire setup. Get rid of the GPU's on the water, and drop HR-03's on the 8800's. Your basically at the wall with that LCS kit.
