Hi I have a Phenom 9850 BE oced at 2.9 GHZ and my 3870x2 takes so much energy and it is so fukin loud that I installed nexus noise damping and still is acting like a maniac so i was wondering should I downgrade my GPU because I only play Age of Empires 3, Counter strike source, a little COD4 and LEFT 4 dead

Would this downgrade be profitable because silence is slightly important and I have beaten all the crysis and maybe swapping the cards when playing high end games?

100 euros is the price they are talking about. I am waiting for 5870 for starcraft 2 or Nvidia if it will do the 1920x1200 high setting 4 x AA thingy. Which ever is cheaper.

My main question is will the downgrade be profitable on the fact of silence, power consumption and performance or should I just stick with my original 3870x2. 3870x2 runs hot on COD4 and a little hot on Crysis. Crysis 60 celsius and COD4 at 70 or more!!!

For that price you're probably going to be well off with a 4830, or it's soon to be replacement the card that is likely to be called the 4750 with GDDR5. You can install an aftermarket cooler on your 3870X2 but I take it you don't want to go through that mess ^_^

mmm... well a HD4850 Usually perfoms on par or near you X2 and the 4750 is said to perfom near the HD4850, so it wouldnt be that much of a performance hit, and the added benefits, like less power draw and less noise might be worth it, usually i wouldnt recomend a less performing card but i do favor a single gpu over a CF, Sli or Multiple GPU like GX2 or X2 setups, well id sea a gain in the swapping of the card, no in performance but in other areas.

The gay thing is his isn't in finland my country >(

btw iv tried to find after marcket 3870x2 coolers. The reality is there isn't any so thats why I'm thinking of a quiet downgrade due to the fact that my main games are age3 which is low recommended.

The best thing to look forward will be the overclocking potential and I'm sure it'll leave 4850 behind, almost analog to the cheap 45nm intel processors leaving 65nm chips far behind after overclocking, even with less cache.

I'd say even moving to a single GPU like the 4850/70 would be a good move. The 4850 alone is a more powerfull card. 800 stream processors VS 640 stream processors from two GPU's. Plus both the 4850 and 4870 have 1GB versions. Either that or you might be able to find a VGA cooler for your 3870x2. Try Vantec, I'm pretty sure they make a bunch of VGA cooler's. G Luck.
