I want to max out triple A games at 1080p 60fps for at least 2 years. Will the Asus Strix 970 or 390 Strix be a better option? I'm leaning towards Nvidia because of the extra features, temps and power usage, drivers and free games. But the only thing stopping me from purchasing a 970 is it's 3.5gb of VRAM compared to the 390's 8GB of Vram.

Btw: my GPU will be paired with an overclocked i5 6600k and 8gb of DDR4 ram.

Neither card will max AAA games at 60 frames per second either due to poor optimisation or very demanding features such as Nvidia GameWorks or x8 anti-aliasing.

It's also impossible to say where games will be in two years. There's certainly a trend towards VRAM, but whether or not this will continue is a complete unknown. HBM's faster memory bandwidth could mean that less VRAM is required. Then there's DX12 to consider.

If you're happy to keep some of the advanced graphical setting down or off, then the GTX 970 is the better overall card for 1920x1080.
