Hi guys, I am trying to decide between the gtx 970, or the AMD 390. Im a little skeptical about amd products, because most of my friends that have amd cpus don't like them. However, the 390 does seem to have better benchmarks, and it has more dedicated VRAM. Any suggestions on which one I should get?

Solution
Simple!

1080p Gaming? Overclock the 970 and you will have atleast a +10fps compared to the 390 on most games.

1440p Gaming? Both is a great option! If you don't mind the heat and power consumption of the 390? Then go for the 390.

Rendering 3D and other programs that use the VRAM of gpu? Shoot for the 390 but the 290x 8GB has a better price to performance especially after the 300s came out.

Care about temps and power consumption? Go for the 970 and you will only need a good 550w psu or a 600w psu if overclocking.

watch jayztwocents video. the 390 is marginally better, but it also takes in way more power, as well as a higher heat output. I would personally go with the 970, as nvidia just has a better reputation, as well as a better resale value, user layout, etc. ( I switched from an asus amd 7950 to a msi gtx 670 power edition as well)
