[SOLVED] 3900X Video Editing/Some Gaming $3K Canadian Build Advice

Budget Range: Around $3000 Canadian Before Rebates

System Usage from Most to Least Important: 4k 60fps video editing for my small YouTube channel, odd games. Haven't played them for a while since my computer was built in 2011.

Parts Not Required: Keyboard, Mouse, Speakers, Headset

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Not very picky

Parts Preferences: Using a 3900X as the CPU. Larger case for easier construction/more harddrive space

Overclocking: Maybe

SLI or Crossfire: No

Monitor Resolution: 4Kish

Additional Comments: I got the 3900X from Amazon with the price error so figured that would be my starting point. Generally have never tinkered with my machines before and I am not hunting for extra fps for games, so I don't think I will be really doing any overclocking. I do want RGB because I am a noob, but it really won't make or break anything. But I would for example pay $10 more for a component to have it. The monitors I currently have are all pre-display port... so a 4K monitor (maybe as I am not sure if it is worth 4K at sub 30"?) and probably a high refresh rate one will be needed as well. The monitor situation is something I am not super sure about. I have a solid 4K tv close by so I don't necessarily need a 4K monitor on the desk and I will probably just buy 1 new monitor and use my old ones as the secondary/tertiary screens.

Could I just go with the stock AMD CPU cooler? Does the ram timings REALLY matter?

You did not say much about your gaming as the GPU can get pretty expensive. I went with a 5700xt. It is a new GPU and the non-reference style cards are being released. I would look for one of those over the blower style I put in here as a place holder.

Make sure you get a good NVMe SSD as that will make a big difference when editing. You cant go wrong with the 970 EVO that I chose.

The RX5700XT is nothing more than a place holder until the non blower ones are available.
The BX500 SSD is for the OS and applications, the 2TB 660p would be to do work on, and the 4TB is for bulk storage. If you can get a 960GB version of the MyDigitalSSD BPX Pro that would be a great choice instead of the 2TB 660p, however, even the largest capacity version of the BPX Pro is in your budget.

For the type of file transfers that are used in 4k video editing, having an NVMe drive will make a big difference, even over a SATA SSD. The Samsung EVO is probably the most popular SSD in the world. I like the Intel 660p, but for large file transfers, it can lag behind. So for your use case, I would go with the EVO or another comparable NVMe drive as there are many.

Here is my latest build of this. Still debating on the MOBO and will be waiting for a 5700 XT non-blower. One of the M.2 will be removed, just waiting to see what is cheapest when I buy a bunch of the parts.

That is a nice rig. The Master Air is not the best cooler in that price range, but it looks pretty good and will get the job done.
