390x Crossfire or 980ti

So I currently have a pc with one 390x and i'm looking to push further into 4k gaming. So should I get another 390x and run crossfire or get a 980ti. I know the new 1000 series cards are out but can get a 980ti cheap. Power requirements and heat are not really an issue as I have a 1000w psu and really good cooling.

A single 980 ti isn't near enough to drive 4k at high frame rates. Unfortunately I don't know enough about the Red Team to say much about 390x crossfire benchmarks but a quick google search will likely tell you how they perform at 4k.

Yeah had a look found quite a bit about the 390x but not many crossfire benchmarks. I kinda feel that the 980ti would be better on games not optimized for crossfire as it is stronger than one 390x but the 390x would out perform the 980ti on other games. Totally stuck . Also not sure I want to buy a 980ti with the idea of using them in SLI in a few months as they are discontinued and will be hard to find.

I agree, unless you have something lined up already where you could get two 980 tis for a reasonable price it isn't worth it. Especially with the 10 series cards on the market.

Just saw this as well and made it ever harder haha. Suppose it comes down to whether I want solid fps in all games or really good fps in some and bad in others.

Don't bother with 4k right now. Go to 1440p if you really want an upgrade.

4k is kind of unplayable for a lot of UI design reasons in a lot of games as well.

Yeah its maybe an idea to just go with 1440p. If I was going 1440p would you recommend the 980ti over the 390x crossfire?

Personally, the best gaming to me is 3440x1440 with G-Sync

Will probably just go for the 980ti then and go for a 1440p Gsync monitor. Thanks for all the input.
