3D gaming. Is it worth it?

Hello gentlemen,

my 24" monitor is slowly dying and now seriously considering 3d gaming since I happen to have a 9 series nvidia card and 3d LCD's are cheap.

The thing is I have never even seen a 3d game or movie and don't know how neato it is. Does it look neato? How so? Is there anywhere I can see a demonstration of these technologies? Would going to see 3d movie be comparable technology? ( I have heard they are not so neato)

and finally, I'm not so keen on the 3d glasses BS and the fact that nvidia has no competition in that area leading to $200 piece of glasses plastic. Should I wait for another year or two when you don't need those whack glasses or when ATI possibly starts supporting 3d?

I'm not a hardcore gamer. I'm not gonna even bother wearing stupid 3D glasses.

It would be nice to see 3D without glasses, but that's never going to happen.

Nintendo all ready has the tech with NO GLASSES called the 3DS, they just need to release the technology.

Spring also has the new EVO 3D Cell Phone with NO GLASSES

necro detected...but yeah the guy who said 3d with no glasses isn't going to happen obviously has not been keeping up with the news.

I ended up buying a 24" IPS screen and love it...except for the fact that it heats up my room about 5-7 degrees if i keep the door shut. Color quality on anything other than an IPS looks like diiirt. I had no idea what I was missing.

My friend has a 3d projector and to be honest its really friggin dumb. Not many games support 3d and the ones that do have a varying scale of compatibility.

3d creates weird artifacts at times and gives me a headache as some other users also commented.

The only reason I can think of to purchase a 3d monitor/projector is for 3d porn...bc its friggin awesome.


LOL at the 3d cell phone...what a frak'n waste of money. Whats a standard media package for one of those rediculous computer phones $80/mo...add the 3d capability tax and hax and your bill is approaching a sh!tty car payment.

I would say the 3DS is capable of doing 3D because of the small screen. It basically limits you to a small field of view. I have not researched the display used in the 3DS, but I would suspect there may be issues doing 3D if the field of view was larger like on a 24" monitor.

I assume it uses some polarizing effect and the left and right half of the 3DS's small screen is refreshed at different rates to give the perception of 3D.

this thread has absolutely nothing to do with 3d hand held gaming...and to be honest I have no idea why someone would want that sorta thing.
