3d imager on 50 Hz

Hi,

I finally purchased a 3d Imager for use with my (european)
Vectrexes. Today I received Crazy Coaster and Narrow Escape so
I can do some testing.

Something I was a bit afraid of before purchasing this, has actually
happenned: On both games, although the displayed images appear in 3d, you
see every line twice. On 3D Minestorm this effect seems a bit less obvious
but it still is present. I assume the following:

The 3d imager has only been manufactured for use in the USA if I'm correct,
where 60 Hz current (110V) is offered. In Europe we use 50 Hz current
(220V). I suppose the rotating speed of the discs is probably the same as
the current frequency, hence the focusing problems?

If the above is correct, the only way to operate the 3D Imager correctly
here in Europe (I live in the Netherlands) seems to use it on a USA Vectrex
hooked up to a power converter which offers 60Hz on 110V?

Kind Regards,

Pepijn

AFAIK the speed of the disc is not tied to the mains frequency.

The problem you experience is actually common to many (if not all) people
who use the 3D Imager. Adjusting your distance from the screen may help a
bit.

I have a USA (GCE and MB) and a Euro Vectrex. I also have a good way to
power the Euro Vectrex. All of them exhibit the same problem to a degree.

Right. Thanks for you reply.

I'll try tinkering with the Vec's monitor controls and try the 3d imager
with some of my other Vecs to see what happens.....

Especially playing Narrow Escape makes me cross-eyed..
Too bad because it seems like quite a fun game.

Thanks again,

Pepijn

I experience the same thing when playing the 3D games. 3D Minestorm is
the best .. but CC and NE don't work that well. Someone suggested using
an overlay also.

I second the overlay. Minestorm or otherwise. Just turning down the
brightness does not give the same effect.
