Question 3d modelling: i3 9100F or i7 3770k; i7 4790k?

I’m thinking about a new case for 3d modelling and rendering. However, I wonder should I get i3 9100F or these old i7 CPU ( 3770k and 4790k).


Socket 1151:

I3 9100f

Main Colorful H310M-EV21

Cpu i7 4790

Main Msi Z97 Mpower Max AC

Follow the information:

- the i3 9100F:

+ higher core’s clock speed ( 3.6Ghz compare to i7 3770k - 3.5Ghz)

+ Newer technology

+ RAM: 2600 Mhz compare to DDR3 2133 Mhz ( OC)



- But these i7 CPUs:

+ More Threads ( 8 compare to i3 9100f - just 4)

+ can Overclock


So, what is better case for 3d Modelling and Render??? I3 9100F or i7 CPUs ( i7 3770k or i7 4790k)??? I will not upgrade the mainboard or CPU after this ( but who will add i7-9700k to a H310 mainboard?).

What is everyone’s ideas? --'

Of the systems listed the Cpu i7 4790 is easily the most powerful and should be your choice.

The problem you have though is the Ryzen 2600x...when combined with a decent B450 motherboard and 16gigs of 3200mhz memory it will clean the floor with all the systems you've listed...for about the same money.

Are you only listing Intel systems due to an issue with your 3d software ?

I still don't really understand AMD's CPUs. I just remember their FX series usually have more core/thread, but still just as good as Intel i3.

That is why I still fear to use AMD's CPUs. Although their information usually very good compare to Intel's CPUs. I fear that their CPUs' performance don't really good in the reality compare to Intel's.

Uh. The FX 8320 wiped the floor with the Intel Core i7 of the time in 3D rendering. It didn't perform well in games. I also use Blender, Photoshop, and Unity. Ryzen and Intel have a similar architecture compared to the FX processors. They also have similar per core performance right now. Simply more cores is better. A nVidia higher end GPU is best.

In application performance Ryzen is faster than Intel in many cases...in others like gaming the Ryzen line is basically at parity with Intel with a few exceptions were overclocking Intel still allows them to win. There are some cases where 5+ Ghz single threaded performance favors Intel especially in older applications like Photoshop but there are less of those every day.

I wouldn't have any fear in going with AMD Ryzen vs Intel...in fact I did the same thing a few months ago and have been very happy with the move to Ryzen for my own photo editing and gaming system.

Supposedly with the ECC RAM.

Just to chime in, my Ryzen 5 1600 does great with Blender. It beats my GTX 1070 ti for image rendering....

It depends on which generation Ryzen... 3000 series CPU's (Zen2) have equal to better IPC than Intel CPU's (better in some calculation scenarios) with 2000 and 1000 series slightly less. But the thing you get with Ryzen is execution threads which those 3d applications you listed are very hungry for. You really need to get into an 8 core/16 thread Intel CPU to compare to any Ryzen CPU in those workloads.

So if you're not looking at a 9900K...or an even better HEDT processor....in the Intel world you're much better off looking at Ryzen 2000 or 3000 series CPU's. And if you could compare based on dollars per frame rendered (not just CPU cost, but motherboard and cooling too) you'll probably find the Intel options will be hilariously outclassed.

And I do believe all Ryzen processors support ECC memory but finding a motherboard that also supports it is harder.

EDIT add:
Take a look at GN's 3700X review...you can ignore his gaming tests, focus instead on the productivity and especially the 3d rendering tasks. And keep in mind that Ryzen 3000, in particular, has only improved since then as BIOS', chipset drivers and Windows OS updates have refined performance.
