3D mouse

Hi,

Could anyone explain me the principle of a 3D mouse? How is the movement on each axis measured? Is it optical or mechanical, etc?

I have'nt heard of a 3-d mouse but I have seen these products.

to the best of my knowledge it runs on a gyro that senses the movement. Very much like the ones in laptops which cause the hdd to lockup when the angle of the machine goes beyond a certain point to avoid damage. ie. if you drop it while in use.
So, you hold the mouse in the air and it senses the side-side, front-back angles of movement.

That's my understanding. Could be wrong. Been there b-4, be there again too.

My mouse is 3D, is yours flat like a sheet of paper?

3D mice are for modeling in 3D. I think Orbit is one brand. They also run around a grand each for the premium ones.

This is optical and just works in the air so you can aim it at the floor, wall or whatever. Don't know if this was what you were talking about or not. Might just be what Rich was saying.
