3D printing filiment price?

So im my class I am printing this : http://www.thingiverse.com/make:192004 : he estimates that it will cost $80 CAD is that fair/ accurate, it seems a little much.

I'm not familiar with 3D printing prices but that does seem steep it should be around 50CAD but I think the best course of action would be to contact people around you who also deal with 3D pringint and with the schematics see how much it costs. If the price is made out by the person who had designed it, then you can assume that it costs his designer's fee.

unfortunately this is the direct price that my teacher gave me using the mass/area of plastic x 5 or something like that, it just seems to much considering that a filament role is around $70 CAD!

That seems really expensive. Where do you/he get the filament? I can get a kg for around $20 USD($25 CAD). Could He be charging for print time? Maybe ? That print shouldn't take a whole spool of filament. Good luck

Thanks man, ill have to ask him about that. By chance would you know any accurate equations for figuring ouit the cost for filament roles?

Well..if you are using CURA, you can go into preferences and input the cost of filament per kg. Assuming you aren't using weird filament, here is the example of PLA for sale with CAD. http://seacans.com/collections/pla/products/white-pla-1-75mm-1kg-with-makerbot-spool-bbr
You could always check to make sure that he doesn't have the infill set to 100%. 25% is enough for me, and it saves that much more plastic and money.

Thanks man, that filament looks exactly like the one we have up at school. That makes sense, he may have it on 100% infill...

Thanks man, that filament looks exactly like the one we have up at school. That makes sense, he may have it on 100% infill...
