So I can get an effect that gives me headaches, halves my FPS, requires me to find an outdated pair of filtering glasses, and doesn't display my game properly, ALL FOR FREE?!

+1, though this could work for those people like me who don't have a 200 series GPU, looked at the 3D Vision link, don't those look like those cheap cardboard red blue glasses?
 
There's a better (I guess, did not try 3D Vision Discover) alternative. IZ3D offer a good alternative for ATI and other non-supported NVidia GPU. The anaglyph part of the IZ3D driver is free.
Had good performance in L4D2.

Anyway, 3D is just a gimmick to pay more for the same thing but 3dED.

Well I think the point of this here is that you don't need all of that. Just a compatible GPU and a pair of glasses.
 
I want the HUD to float on screen. Think how cool it'll look if "behind" the HUD, zombies are running towards you and you shoot over the HUD with an auto shotty.

So not true. Any pair of red/cyan 3D glasses will work from any vendor. Here are just a couple:

Still, In doesn't work well at all unless you buck up for the Officail Nvidia Glasses, and IR transmitter. (200$) , a 120H moniter (600$) and a GTX 295 (500$+).

And that's to much to pay for the current, Imperfect 3D.

I'll switch over to 3D when I can do it on ATI, without glasses, and without a 120HZ moniter.

( Oh, and it works well)
 
I tried it with a pair of cheap paper Red-Blue glasses and it's pretty much worthless. You get a headache real quick, and it can be quite disorienting in closed-quarters games. However, I did like playing Burnout Paradise with the glasses. The depth of field really adds to the sensation of speed.
 
Try with a pair of Pro-Ana glasses, should be a lot better than with your outdated cardboard ones...
 
I bought the glasses from Nvidia the best game with them so far is DeadSpace it looks cool in some stuff and pretty janky in others dont reccomend Batman AA as it seems to slow the whole game down even though it says im getting 35 fps its pretty cool with killing floor as well with rendered hardsight models
 
Someone want to wake me up when 240Hz, 4048x2024 AMOLED filter (most projectors are DLP or LCD), touch sensitive laser projectors come around $200?
Then I'll jump full way onto 3D. =D
 
just download iz3d driver from www.izd3.com and you'll have same effect, with every graphic card (not only nvidia) and on win XP too.
 
This is really not new, I found this out a long time ago, and if you have ever bought a 3D movie you would already have the classes you need.The problem with this method is the it washes out a lot of the color and the cheap classes are uncomfortable.
 
just played a sequence through Mass Effect2 with a set of glasses I got in last months issue of PC-PowerPlay. I've got depth set to minimal (works best in the dark environments for me)

I must say it's subtle but definitely there. Worth a shot, didn't get a headache and played for about 30 minutes.

Tried FEAR as well, but it's so dark it's hard to get any effect. I'll run mirrors edge in the morning, light and bright, so should work well in the high contrast environments.

Go to your local newsagent's shop/newsagency/newsstand.
Every few month there are magazines with red and cyan 3D glasses.
It can be in magazines for children or other magazines, usually men's magazines (example, Ralph did it recently in Aus).
And you got a free magazine with the glasses ;-) .

For Australian readers, as manitoublack said, you can find some blue/red 3D glasses in the PC Powerplay of this month.
 
With a teleprompter mirror, 2 identical monitors, 2 polarized screens, a set of polarized glasses, and a copy of iz3d, you can get 3d without reb/blue for a few hundred bucks (under $100 if you already have the monitors). I opted for the 2 projector polarized setup, and it's heavenly. Sorry to all of you who don't want to spend the money, don't like gaming enough, or get headaches from stereoscopy. Mirror's Edge went from a mediocre FPS to an immersive parkour experience.

yup, that's all they use. I've actually been using this for a long time now, this isn't anything new. I bought a few pair of glasses online, though, honestly, the cardboard ones that came with Monsters vs. Aliens work a lot better. Go to Walmart and pick as for some of the cardboard ones that they were giving out for the Hanna Montana concert DVD. Free, and you can check out how they work.
Different games work differently on it. Crysis not so good. Aion and WoW look great, and Dirt looks pretty good too. It does crunch your system, but it playing Aion was amazing.
 
best effect i've had with it is in GRID with the cockpit view. all the different parts of the dash at different depths. I find that you can see the effect with stuff close to the camera more.

btw in half life 2 the crosshair was off centre. any way of fixing that?
