Running blend is better because it stresses the whole system, run the FFTs after you have considerable time running blend. I think you RAM voltage might have been low, if you past with flying colors try to put your CPU Vcore down one setting if you can. Let us know how it go's. :)

Thats it, after seeing this SS the CPU, although this seems it shouldnt make sense, has a decent effect on the SM2/3 scores. Reason being is I have a 8800GT @ 700/1950 and a E2180 @ 3Ghz and this is my score at those particular settings:

Main Test Results

3DMark Score 11283 3DMarks

SM 2.0 Score 5045 Marks

SM 3.0 Score 5408 Marks

CPU Score 2545 Marks

Notice how his SM2 score is 800 higher and SM3 600 higher and his cpu about 300 higher. Yet my 8800GT is OC higher. So from this I'm concluding the CPU's power does have an effect on SM2/3 scores as well. Which when I think about it can make a little sense since the GPU's instrcutions can be handled faster by a faster CPU I guess?.. Whoops forgot to mention Im using Vista as well which looks as though it causes slightly lower scores, but still not a big a difference to still offset what I noticed with faster CPU's and 3dmark06 scores.

14042 3dMark06 after CPU OC. I haven't yet OCed the graphics card, and I don't think I'm going to, but that would probably get me another 1000 or more marks.

Specs:

Q6600 @ 3.6 GHz
4 gig RAM
Stock EVGA 8800 GTS 512 g92 (670 clock)
Vista Ultimate 64

I'm gonna shut the machine down for an hour or two to let the Arctic Silver set (the thing has been on and Priming since I built it, lol), then boot back up and run an hour of small FFTs to get my final temp/voltage readings.

I hear that those 8800GTS OC like no other can, I've seen almost 800MHz. During the overclocking of my 8800GTX (from 575MHz to 651MHz) graphics card I never saw a single degree more with the OC. You will notice a much bigger difference in you overclock of your CPU if your also overclock your GPU, I did even in Crysis.

3.6ghz!!!!! Thats 1.2ghz over stock!

What kind of cooling do you have on that? Is it stable?

Rock stable. I had to run Prime95 for almost 3 days to dial it in, but it's there. I'm using a Zalman 9700 NT cooler in an Antec 900 case, which has a total of 420+ cfm of airflow (207 in, 213 out, not including the fans on the graphics card and the PSU). Final specs are as follows:

Q6600 @ 3.6 GHz
Voltage = 1.45 BIOS Setting; 1.444 Vcore reported by BIOS; 1.440 idle CPU-Z; 1.392 load CPU-Z.
Temps = 67*C, hottest core small FFTs

Regarding the OC on the graphics card: I wouldn't mind OCing it, but the option isn't available in Rivatuner, even after the 600h edit to the config file. Rivatuner can control the fans just fine, but it can't OC it. Is there another program I can OC with?

Interesting, I was looking to OC to 3ghz, with my soon to be ordered (Thusday hopefully) Q6600 with Sythe ninja + Cooler master 832, with just stock case fans.

I really didnt realise you could push this little guy to the limit like that. Very interesting thanks!

Yes you can overclock with RivaTuner, under "Driver Setting" where it says ForceWare detected. Click the hollow arrow pointer and then click on the "System Settings" then click on the icon that looks like a single PCB card, thats it. "RivaTuner works better than ATITool."

I you had a good high quality water cooling system I bet you could reach 3.8GHz, or maybe even 4GHz.

Well, the OC bug bit, and I had to do up the card as well.

EVGA 8800 GTS 512
Core = 780 MHz (got some artifacts at 800, backed it down)
Shaders = 2000 (didn't really push them too hard, just wanted to keep it conservative)
Memory = 2000

3d Mark 06 = 15189
SM 2.0 = 6482
SM 3.0 = 6205
CPU = 4902

Scored 3,577,371 out of 3,625,611.
Scored better than 99% of all systems tested.

You just blew my system right out of the water, great job! :sol: I told you those 8800GTS OC like a speed demon, 780MHz GPU core is amazing! :ouch: What was your stock clock?

C2D E6400@2.8
BFG 8800GT OC 625/1800

3DMark Score 11296 3DMarks
SM 2.0 Score 5324 Marks
SM 3.0 Score 5210 Marks
CPU Score 2502 Marks

Wondering if i dare oc the cpu further.

I guess you can add how much EVGA had overclocked it also, its already a superclocked and now its megaclocked. You going to see the biggest differences with games that are sensitive to the GPU like FEAR and Crysis. Now all you have to wait for is 3DMark08 which I bet has DirectX 10.1 built-in to it. Cheers mate :D

the highest factory overclocked card i could find when i first bought my card was ASUS's TOP version and i copied that with my ASUS 8800GTS 512 "standard"

i got 15156 with my Q6600 OCed to 3.2ghz, my card was 740clock, 1800shader and 2070memory

http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=4497217

i might try your overclocks in my system, what is the highest stable clocks you guys achieved?

I only pushed it to 3.6, but I know I could have gone to 3.7, and maybe even a little higher, on air, but I wanted to keep the safety margin. How high you can clock it depends on your individual chip. I know that both your card and your CPU can go higher...how much higher depends very much on your cooling arrangement.

Edit: Can't seem to get your 3D Mark page to load. Are you running XP? How much RAM do you have? I'm curious because you're score is within about 40 marks of my own, and both my GPU and CPU are running at notably higher clocks.

2x1gig corsair ddr2 800mhz DHX cas4, and yes running XP

btw i meant your GPU clocks hehe, sorry didn't make that clear enough

i got adequate cooling i would think, my case is thermaltake armor aluminum and my cpu cooler is thermalright ultra-120 extreme w/ as5
