3GB vs. 4GB for gaming

Hey everyone 😀

I have an older PC which I would use for gaming, but I don't have any money to upgrade parts right now.
I am using Win7 64-bit with 3Gb of DDR2 RAM and I've heard that is really bad to use 3Gb anyways, that it's better to use 2gb,4gb,8gb,16gb etc., but I don't see a purpose for that... Isn't it like, the more the merrier? 😀
So, I am thinking of buying 1Gb of RAM to have a total of 4Gb, but would that improve my performance in any way? Also, would it be better NOT to use a 1080p monitor with my spec?

CPU: Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E7300 (3M Cache, 2.66 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB)

RAM: 3Gb DDR2 800MHz

More RAM will help. 8GB is recommend for gaming right now, but with this old a system I doubt you'll be able to play games at settings that actually benefit from 8GB of RAM.

I'd recommend you upgrade the entire system or wait until you can afford to upgrade the entire system. I really don't think it's worth it to spend a bunch of money on this kind of system.

I know, but I wouldn't spend a lot, only for another 1Gb RAM and I wouldn't play the newest games anyway 😀

In that case, open Resource Manager and play the most intensive game you play for a while, then check the Memory Usage graph. If it stays under 100% there's no point in adding more RAM. If it does regularly hit 100% more RAM will help.

Dual channel memory can't run in dual channel w/o having a patched pair or RAM modules.

Believe this mobo has but two slots and with 3 GB already, you have no open slots, would need to upgrade the 1GB stick you have to a 2GB stick

Actually, you might take a look in CPU-Z - in the memory tab, and find you are in dual channel mode or 2GB of it is anyway - believe your mobo utilizes flex mode, if so 2GB would be in dual and the odd one in single
