I currently run 1 144hz monitor and 1 TV on extended mode with a gtx 970

I am looking to upgrade to a 3 monitor set up with a gtx 1080 but am confused weather or not it will work

I have found a samsung monitor that is full hd but only VGA input. Could i buy 2 of these and connect them using passive display port to vga adaptors and then connect the primary display (144hz monitor) via DVI-D or HDMI?

would this allow me to have different items on each monitor? and also not important but would it work for gaming?

any help greatly appreciated!

"Would i be better off converting display port to dvi?"
Yes, the digital to analog adapter would not be needed, instead you can just by a simple adapter or a cable with display port on one end and dvi on the other end.
I like monoprice.com for cables/wires/adapters. (Good prices and quality)

"i believe with nvidia has to be connected via HDMI for my 144hz?"
That... I don't know off hand you'll have to check the nvidia documentation. (User manual for the video card)
"only VGA input"
That likely means it's OLD because most modern monitors have DVI, HDMI or DisplayPort for a digital input signal

yes, that should work

"would this allow me to have different items on each monitor?"
yes, as long as you use 1 port for each monitor (and 1 adapter)

"and also not important but would it work for gaming?"
Yes, however I don't recommend VGA as the standard is old outdated and provides the lowest quality signal for a computer monitor.

Thankyou for the reply,

I believe the monitor has 1 vga input and 1 dvi input.
Would i be better off converting display port to dvi? I am not too bothered about the performance and thats why im looking at cheaper monitors. i just need the 3 screen set up for work but also need full HD

i believe the 1080 has 3 display ports so thats why i was considering that as my main monitor i believe with nvidia has to be connected via HDMI for my 144hz?
