Hello everyone,
Hope you're having a great day.
Im currently using an old i5 2400 with HP compaq 6200 mt and its quite old and slow now so i was thinking of a little upgrade to any 3rd gen processor like 3570,1240v2 1245v2 or even an 3770 .
Currently the prices for the i7 2600 is quite high (others too but its not the best price to performance ratio imo) it has double prices but not the performance.
So is there any way of using 3rd gen processor on this motherboard
Given: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-compaq-6200-pro-microtower-pc/5037909/document/c02779499

Any help will be appreciated.

It would be a pure gamble. And your link doesn't show any Ivy Bridge CPUs, just Sandy Bridge.

It might work. With...

It might work. With aftermarket motherboards, a simple BIOS update allowed most Sandy Bridge-era motherboards to use Ivy Bridge CPUs. But when you get a prebuilt, you'll get inconsistent and inadequate BIOS support; even if there's a BIOS update that allowed this motherboard to run an Ivy Bridge CPU, there's no guarantee that HP even documented this for the consumer in any way. And tracking down the least old BIOS updates for an 11-year-old prebuilt is going to be a giant pain.

Seems it only came available with the 2nd gen Intel CPU:
HP Compaq 6200 Pro Microtower PC Specifications | HP® Customer Support

The upgrade to 3rd gen on 2nd gen motherboard was a BIOS update. HP doesn't make things easy when you look for information on BIOS, much like Dell they want a 'service code' or model info that we don't have.
You may be able to search under support to see if there is a later BIOS release that makes this possible.

Keep in mind that even a new i3 would perform better than this age of i7. Wouldn't put a lot of money into this whatever way you opt to go.

Okay so where can i find the code? I saw a sticker below the case...
How can i update my BIOS? is it safe? Cuz i have heard that incompatible bios update may break(fry) the motherboard..
