I have yet to play Tribes: Vengeance; being kind of put off by some of
the stories I've heard about dumbed down gameplay and not having a
Directx9 card.

But I'm perusing vengeancemaps.com and it looks like some of the
community has been busy in the few months the game has been released.

They've made maps for T:V like Beggars Run, Dangerous Crossing,
Scarabrae, Stonehenge and Rollercoaster.

I suppose those maps would be inevitable, but it makes the game that
much more appealing to me. I might just have to play this new-fangled,
dumbed down episode in the Tribes franchise.

Yes these new maps bring a lot more of the tribes feel into the game than
the retail maps. You can now get T:V on http://www.direct2drive.com/ ,
though you might find it cheaper in store if carried locally.

Yeah, I noticed that on the official T:V site. Kinda like Valve's
Steam in a sense.

Direct download of premium content to the drive. Nice idea, but one of
the things I always loved about purchasing a new game is all the
reference cards and manuals you get to look over.

Especially back in the day when the graphics really weren't so
emersive so they helped get you into the feel of the game with, say, a
players guide that looked beaten up, used and slightly toasted.

I recall the Wasteland manual was pretty entertaining. Had a Mad
Maxian, post-apocolyptic wear to it. Fun stuff.

Hey, yeah! He is missing, isn't he? It's been such a while since I was
on usenet that I forgot about our favorite Frenchman.

Hey now Quix! I'll not stand by and have a French associate of mine
bashed like that!

Not without joining in, at least!

Maybe he took a bath and dissolved?
