3TB "SATA 6g/s" hard drives motherboard connections. Isn't SATA2 exactly the same as SATA3?

Hi,

I've got an SSD that I'll be using my SATA3 Mobo connection with. I also have 3 large 3tb hard drives that are advertised as SATA 6g/s---but I'm told that really is kind of false advertising, given that a SATA 3g/s connection will be just the same.

Is this correct?

Thanks so much for the input.

HDD's typically won't perform to the SATA3 maximum, not unless it has high RPM and low seek rates. Even SSD's are hard pressed to max out the potential of SATA3. Typically, motherboards will have 2 SATA3 ports and the rest are SATA2. Obviously, dedicate the SATA3 to the SSD and connect the HDD's to the older SATA2. Good luck!

Oh! Well then won't I notice a difference? I guess if I wasn't using my SSD for browsing, games etc then I would. But if I store movies etc on the HD, will I notice a performance difference in opening files etc. I imagine not.

Seagate Barracuda 3 TB HDD SATA 6 Gb/s NCQ 64MB Cache 7200 RPM

It was on a huge sale (much less than WD drives).

I'll also have a SSD.

I have another question that I've been trying to answered better a sale ends: which is better, ASUS GTX660-DC2O-2GD5 GeForce GTX 660 2GB vs EVGA GeForce GTX650Ti Boost SuperClocked 2GB GDDR5

ASUS GTX660-DC2O-2GD5 GeForce GTX 660 2GB is better without any confusion regarding performance.
