So im thinking of having a triple 32 inch 1440p setup for iracing and other sim games.

Im wondering thats a lot to push and what GPU do i need and how much do i need.
Would 3x980ti be able to get them up to 144hz? or at least 120h?

I dont really fancy 60hz. not for racing.

Thanks

do you already have 3 980ti? if not then going for sli 1080 would be the best

No But 3x 980ti would be around £900 used where as 2x 1080 would be aroun 1200-1300 new

A single GTX980Ti is about equal to 1070 (1070 is a bit faster)
For 3x 1440p, my feelings tell me that you will need at least 2x GTX1080.
3x 1440p is about 33% more pixels than 4k.
If you can wait, wait for GTX1080Ti.

Did you want to use all three displays as one big display or three separate displays? If you want them as one big one you can only have one gpu system pushing images, meaning either one card or one two-way sli setup. Three-way sli is not supported and does not work anymore with the latest drivers. To push that much stuff you'll need two expensive cards just to get over 80fps.

GTX 1070/1080 only officially support 2x SLI, although I believe there is a workaround to get 3 or 4 way SLI working on Pascal. That, combined with the fact that SLI beyond 2 cards tend to scale poorly, would make me recommend against 3x 1070s.

I have seen several videos showing that three-way sli setups, depending on the game, either don't use one card or simply ont launch the game. The workarounds are iffy at best. I agree, best to stick with a two card max here.

That is correct using windows 10 multigpu dx12.

So 2xtitan is what's needed then?
Or 2x 1080ti. ?
I'm not sure 2x1080 would reach 144fps consistently?

2x1080 wont reach 144fps cosistently. If they make 1080ti's they may but you'll have to wait. 2 of the newest titans could probably do it.

From what leaks I found their is no 1080ti. Nvidia plans to rebadge them all to 2000 series and launch the 2080ti possible at CES in january. The 2000 series will have higher clocked GDDR5X RAM and a clock for a lower price. The 2080ti price should only be a bit higher than the 1080 and the 2080 will see a price cut to $499. The 2070 gets a bit more cores is the only major change.

So if this is really something you want you either need to wait for the 2000 series or grab a pair of titans. That also requires a lot of ram and cpu. Gonna be a sweet build if that's what you do. You could add a custom liquid loop. It would be like skunkworks.

+mikeyinstant My knee-jerk response is to suggest that you buy one of the following GPU combinations:

GTX 1080 x 2 ($650 X 2 = $1,300)
Titan X Pascal x 2 ($1,200 x 2 = $2,400)
GTX 1080 Ti x 2 (~$800 or $900 x 2 = $1,600 or $1,800) * Not announced yet.

Here are my questions to you:

What is your current system's full specs, including the manufacturer and model # of your power supply and your current displays?

Which displays are you considering buying? 1440p 144 Hz with g-sync? The gsync option alone will cost you $700 per display times three. Have you considered buying a single 3440 x 1440p 100 Hz display instead? An Acer X34 Predator or Asus PG348Q would cost about $1,300. You could power one of those with a single GTX 1080 or Titan XP; personally I'd opt for the GTX 1080.

What is your upgrade budget for displays and also your graphics card(s)?

iRacing: I've never played this simulator but I have friends that do. If I'm not mistaken, I believe that a monthly subscription only entitles you to one track and one car. In order to access more, you'd need to spend $10 or $15 for each additional track or car. I have a friend that has spent over $1,000 on iRacing transactions. It is for this reason that I opted for Project Cars and Dirt Rally instead of iRacing.
