I was looking at making a new system with the new broadwell-e, gtx 1080 and intel optane drives, something I have been waiting to do for a while now, however the early indications are showing that the gtx 1080 will struggle to run games at full spec @ 4k, 60fps - plus the rumour is that the new cards (by nVidia at least) will be limited to 2x sli with their new bridge.

this year has shown a no go with the intel optane drives aswel, so the earliest will now be skylake-e/zen in 2017 but my question is when will tripple 4k gaming become a reality? will it be 2017 with vega or gtx 1080ti/next titan? or will it be 2018+

well today is the day for benchmarks (17th May), so lets see what comes out. But my guess is that in terms of solid 60 fps in surround 4k, (11520x6480), may be in Volta series. Certainly with the new 10 core that intel are coming out with, plus some M.2 drive, I expect 4k will be no issue.
