4+4 pin eps vs. 8 pin connectors

Im looking to add custom sleeved cable extensions to my new rig. My motherbord takes the 24 pin, 4 pin, and an 8 pin to power it. Im running dual gpus which eqch take a 6 lin and 8 pin. Im wondering what the difference is between an 8 pin and a 4+4 pin is???? Do they work the same or is there a difference between them??? What is the difference between EPS and PCI-E..... tha ks!!!

they do work the same, the 4+4 pin was designed for older models which only require a 4 pin for the cpu.

The pin outs are different. CPU/mobo uses 24pin + 4pin/4+4pin (8 pin eps)

GPU uses 6pin + 6+2pin (8pin pci-e)

You can't mix and match they have to be the correct cable or you'll fry things. (assuming you try and force the connector and actually get it in the wrongly keyed slot)

Sooo i have the maximus vi formula which i assume takes the 24 pin, 4 pin, and 4+4 pin eps then???? Dont get an 8 pin pcie in place of the 4+4 pin eps on the mobo? Only use the pcie 8 pin on the gpus?

Correct. The 4+4pin can also be called an 8pin eps connector and the PCI-E 8pin can also be called a 6+2pin.

I'm using Formula VI. For clarity purpose: -

Connect 4+4 EPS connector or CPU connector (Use Label marking on PSU cables) to CPU power connector header. Connect 4 pin or 4+4 pin both would be same. If CPU is using less than 140W then 4 pin is sufficient which is your case for Haswel CPUs. Anyhow connecting 4+4 pins will not damage any thing.

Connect 6/6+2 PEG/PCIe connector or VGA connector to graphics card.

Connect 24pin ATX power connector on the motherboard 24 pin header.

Which PSU you are using? We can guide you accordingly.

Technically you don't but honestly connect it anyways as its just in general a good idea.
