I picked up a Dell Dimension 9150 (came with a deal on the 24 inch widescreen monitor) in December. I reinstalled the os on a Maxtor 200 gb hdd with a 16 mb cache. System information now shows the 3.2 ghz cpu running @ 4.41 ghz. Belarc reflects the same. Everything else on system looks and working normal. Any ideas??

3.2 ghz cpu (Intel 540)
512 mb ram
Creative xfi
Ati x800
xp home

What's your BIOS set to? That speed (if accurate) would mean a FSB of 275. You'd have severe problems if you'd just upped the FSB to that value. your RAM, your mobo, and probably your chip would almost certainly crap out well before that, unless you'd increased voltages and had some pretty decent cooling....

I suspect it's a mis-reading somewhere.

Thanks for your reply...Bios (A02) read normal. I could only wish for such an overclock but the reading (of course) is inaccurate. This is not a critical issue since everything else works, I just can't figure out what is causing the mis-reading.

did you install the OEM windows... these large manufacturers (at least compaq with my laptop) have their own version of windows with 'hotfixes'... if you installed a non-OEM version maybe you didn't get those hot fixes and that may be causing reading errors.

LOL...But kind of like the idea...I decided to keep this system originally to replace a 4 year old 8250 (2.4 b, 1 gb rdram 1066) and sell it on ebay. Funny thing is, the 8250 seemed faster then this 9150 (I haven't taken the time to benchmark, and probably never will).
