4 channel and 8 channel modems

I have had connection problems and my cable provider suggested I get an 8 channel modem. They told me the one I have is only 4 channel and is not very powerful. I pay for 50 mb internet connection and when I am on the internet playing games on pogo or facebook they stutter alot. It stutters even more if I have my anti virus or an update running in the background.
What can you tell me about the 8 channel modems.

what the exact model?
the stutter sound like is your pc then the internet.

I have a motorola SB6121 surfboard and I have two computers on a router, it is doing it on both computers. It is very frustrating. Tech support told me yesterday that she had two programs checking my connection, one said the modem was connected, one said it was not. She went on to tell me about the 8 channel modems.
