Hi there,
I am upgrading my ram from 16GB to 32GB so I bought 2 sets (exactly the same) of G.Skill Trident Z RGB DDR4 3200MHz. When I insert any 2 ram sticks in slots 1 & 3, I get ram speed of 2133MHz even with XMP profile enabled. When I insert any 2 ram sticks in slots 2 &4 , I get ram speed of 3200MHz with XMP enabled. Why do slots 1 & 3 only run at 2133MHz with XMP enabled and slots 2 & 4 will run at 3200MHz with XMP enabled? I'm baffled... Please help!

My system is:
MB - ASRock B450M Pro4
CPU - AMD Ryzen 7 2700X
RAM - G.Skill Trident Z RGB DDR 3200MHz (F4-3200C16D-16GTZR)
GPU - XFX R570 8GB
PS - Deep Cool 80+ Gold 750W

Thanks for the response egda23.
When I put all 4 sticks in it runs at 1866MHz even with XMP enabled. After reading your comment I checked the manual as you indicated and I figured out what I had to do for running the memory in Pinnacle. I inserted the 4 ram and then enabled XMP to 2933MHz and that worked. Then I tried XMP 3000MHz and am currently running at that speed no problem.
Do you have any suggestions on what tweaks would be needed to run at 3200MHz?

If you can get one of the kits to work at 3200MHz but not with both kits then you may have a mismatch. Mixing kits is never a good idea due to Latency /Density differences. Even two kits with the exact same P/N can mismatch. That's why manufacturers bin RAM kits for CL conformance.

If problems persist then return what you have and get one single kit the frequency and size you need supported by your CPU and MB and selected from the MB QVL that are tested and known to work.

Solution
Yeah, testing both sets of sticks by themselves in the proper slots to see if the individual sets can maintain 3200 MHz is key information.

While identical model RAM sticks will usually work, they don't always. Because they're not identical. Because of the realities of fabrication, no two sticks of RAM or CPUs are identical. RAM sticks aren't sold in pairs and quartets because they're identical, but because they're close enough and have been tested to work together.

The only sticks of RAM guaranteed to work together are ones sold together in the same package, having been tested together.

Thanks for the tips everyone. I'm still playing around with them to see what speed and timings work best. I was running them at 3000MHz but I encountered a few BSOD so I backed them down to 2933MHz, which is what it says in the ASRock B450M Pro4 manual for Pinnacle.

When you look on th0e QVL for your mobo, on the whole list, 3200 MHz can only be obtained with 2 sticks.
Once you use 4 sticks, 2933 is the highest speed.
On the GSkill configurator, same thing: 2933 max with 4 sticks. They do not propose 2 x 32 Go kit, but this remains the only possibilty to try, if you wish

Thank you egda23 I did read that later after my initial post! I'm currently running at 2933 with the 4 sticks. I'll be returning the 4 sticks and just buy 2x16GB sticks for 32GB RAM.
