4 pin and 6 pin power connector?

So here's my situation. I've just finished building my first gaming PC and the graphics card I chose is a Radeon 7850 2GB which requires 1, 6 pin power connector from the PSU, and my Motherboard, which is a ASRock FM2 AMD A55 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard, requires a 4 pin power connector to power it. And so the problem is, my power supply about 500w, only has 1, 4 pin power connector, so all I can do is power my motherboard. So my question is, is there such thing as a power supply that will suffice for me? or an adapter of some sort. Also, I've been running my games off of my CPU's integrated graphics, which is actually quite impressive what I'm getting out of it. Thanks in advanced.

None of those plugs/connectors are interchangeable. Every PSU will have the required motherboard plugs. But at 500 watts your PSU would also have a PCIe connector. Probably a 6+2 pin, this is a dedicated connector for a graphics card; as a motherboard can only supply a GPU ~75 watts max. So a GPU that requires additional wattage, gets it from additional connector(s) directly from the PSU.

Just go to newegg.com and shop power supplies for educational value. You can select/search, via the PCIe connector(s). One 6 pin? Two 6+2 pins? And you'll see the wattage, regardless of brand name ...all be approximately the same. As each 6 pin is good for 75 watts, an 8(6+2) pin= 150 watts.

*A Radeon 7850 will use 130 watts max. So it only requires one six pin.

Any real PSU, more so if its a "500W" PSU will have at least one if not two 6 pin plugs. My 450W has two of the 6+2pin plugs. Just buy a new PSU. The Antec 380W green and Corsair CX430W are both rather cheap and good. Either should have no problem powering a 7850.

Thank You so much. I was actually looking at this earlier, but I was not sure if it's what I needed. I'll order it and see if it works.

I understand all that already, I was just wondering if there was such thing as an adapter instead of having to spend another $60 on a power supply. But thanks, I appreciate the answer.

Yes! I was hoping that wasn't the case here...

Anyway @EpikGam3r, was there no dual molex to 6 pin in the Radeon box?
AMD and NVidia used to include them, the "band-aid" connector could lead to GPU death; maybe they stopped.

I don't like adapters. If the PSU wanted you to use that much power, they would have included the correct plugs. With the adapter you risk causing damage to the PSU and the rest of your PC if it overloads. You are much better off spending the $30-$35 on one of the PSUs I suggested then trying what you are thinking.

Ok then, I'll buy another power supply. But I need on that has 2 6 pin power connectors then. I'll also get the adapter for my motherboard, other wise, I'll have to replace it. Could some one link me to a power supply that will work out for me?

Why would you need two? The 7850 only takes one 6pin plug? Here are the PSUs I've already mentioned twice.

Antec 380W green. $48 counting shipping. (this is the highest I've seen this PSU, bad price.)

Corsair CX430. $40 counting shipping, though it has a $20 rebate bringing the eventual price down to $20 when it shows up.

Capstone 450W. $63 counting shipping. This is a gold rated unit meaning it's VERY efficient at converting AC to DC. Has two 6+2pin plugs and can run any card.

I would get the Corsair if you want a cheap PSU, or the Capstone if you want to spend some coin. As I mentioned, at the price for the 380W green you might as well get the capstone.

I know the card only takes one, but I need one to power my motherboard as well. And my card is 6 pin and the motherboard is 4 pin. So are the PSU you linked me two capable of powering both? And thanks btw.

Thank's. I'll be buying it then. I really appreciate all your guys help. =)
