Hello everyone!

What would you guys do? I would like to get more space.. at the moment i'm using two samsung evo 840 250GB ssds runningin raid 0, which perform really good. But i need more space..

Two more 250gb sata3 and raid them 4x250gb raid0

Or

I do have a free m.2 slot on the asus rog v extreme motherboard. Buy m.2 but get half the gb's for the price, but speed? Id like to see benchmarks with 4x 850evos in raid before i buy.

Yes, i was thinking about the 950 PRO NVMe version.

It's alwasys exciting to try a bigger raid0 and see how much faster i can go. But i had 4hdds in raid0 some years ago, and it failed.. so i'm not really sure.

And the Sata drives are much cheaper per GB. hmmm

What would I do? I don't bother with RAID arrays.

From a historical perspective RAID arrays were developed to improve hard disk drive performance. With modern ssd's, especially the new M.2 and PCIe versions, RAID arrays are no longer as popular as they once were. Interest in RAID arrays has steadily declined over the past 8 years. You can see it in the forum posts.

Are M2 used as boot drive in PC common these days? My concern was the location I see on most new MB it's so close the the video cards.. Thoughts? I am about to build a new machine and keen to use M2 boot drive.

Since you are interested in ssd's I'd like to mention that I maintain an ssd database listed in a sticky at the very top of this forum section. Here is the link:

http://www.johnnylucky.org/data-storage/ssd-database.html

The database is divided into sections based on the interface. PCIe and M.2 ssd's are listed at the beginning of the database. Follow the links to the techniocal reviews for brands and models you might be interested in. The reviews are divided into two categories - English language and reviews in many other languages.
