4 Types of DDR2... please help me decide!

Hi,

The shopping list so far is as follows:

- Intel Quad Core Q6600 2.4GHz S775

- Gigabyte GeForce 8800GT 512MB GDDR3 PCIE Dual DVI 700/1.9

- Seagate Barracuda 7200.1 500GB 7200RPM S300 32MB

- Corsair Memory 550W VX PSU


I am now trying to choose ram, I have found 4 that seem to be rather good, but knowing as little as I do, I would like a hand with deciding which to go for:

Number 2 has 4-4-4-15 latency timings as opposed to number 1's 5-5-5-18. I don't know what that means I am afraid.

Number 4 appears to be somehow different from number 3, but I can't workout how.

Any advice would be fantastic.

Go with option #4. The RAM features a better heatsink design (?) and better quality RAM chips usually some form of a D9.

1 is OCZs more standard 2x2GB kit for DDR2-800, 2 is the more entusiast model. Same relationship with 3 and 4, they are really the same, but the other one has fancier cooling.

The best of those kits is likely going to be the OCZ Reaper.

You want the lowest CAS latency possible.

One of them is 4-4-4-15, which is better than 5-5-5-18.

is RAM with better latencies than all of those 4

I would also go for option 4, That happens to be the ram i,m getting next week for my upgrade. I would recommend that on because of the heatsink design. I just prefer corsair ram, but ocz usualy has better timings then corsair. but you won,t notice it in real-world aps. unless maybe your planning on doing some ocing.

^Agreed. Also most of the time you will be able to OC the corsair better, but they are still no where near the Crucial Ballastix.

But Micron D9GMH/D9GKX used by Ballistix and most highly overclockable 1GB modules don't come in densities to allow 2GB modules, so you aren't really going to get anything up to those standards yet. The Micron D9s in higher densities seem to be good for mild overclocks.

So of that group, probably the Corsair or the Viper?
