What configuration is better performance wise? 4 gtx 980s or 2 980 tis? money is not a problem and other pc components wont bottleneck also power is not a problem (please just answer the question and don't talk about it being overkill <3)
A GTX 980 excels at 1080p gaming, does OK at 1440p. The 980Ti excels at 1440p gaming and does well at 4K but triple monitors is a lot even for two 980Tis.
Even so the best option is dual GTX 980Tis unless you can squeeze a third 980Ti into the mix.
What kind of CPU and board were you planning for this insane GPU setup?
2 GTX 980 Ti's for sure, assuming you mean this to be for gaming... because of the extra vram and the lack of support for 3-4 way sli in most games (very little performance gains going past 2 cards).
Well it depends a lot on resolution but for the most part two 980Tis would be better at higher resolutions (4K) due to the extra VRAM (6GB vs 4GB).
triple 1440p 144hz monitors or possibly triple 4k at 60 hz
No combination of cards will run those setups at close to the monitor refresh rates, unless you put your settings fairly low. Still 2 GTX 980 Tis would be a better option than 4 GTX 980, with 3 GTX 980 Tis being the best you can really hope for ( adding a 4th GPU can often even lower performance so i'd avoid that).
