4-Way SLI GTX 580 3GB on AM3 Motherboard:

So, I've been looking specifically for a motherboard that I've seen before that supported 4-way SLI with an AM3 processor; everywhere I look it is either out of stock or overpriced. So I have come to the question: Since I can only find AM3 motherboards supporting up to 3-way SLI, could I use one of these with four GTX 580's with liquid cooling so that each one only takes up one slot? If it sounds weird, basically there is only enough room for four GTX 580's if they are single slot.

I am not looking to switch to Intel for my processor or motherboard, I've done plenty of research on that already and it's not a budget problem. I am not going to give my reasons why I prefer AMD over Intel, but it is my personal opinion.

As you can see http://pcpartpicker.com/parts/motherboard/#l=4&sort=a1 There is only one board that does what you want on the AMD platform, the rest that are capable are intel.

However, two of the slots are limited to X8, and 2 more are at X4 mode. I would not recommend trying to run Quad SLI on any system, let alone AMD. Also, without your specs listed there could be bottlenecking issues too.

Im not telling you what brand to use. But its close to if not impossible on the AM3/AM3+ Platform.

EDIT: Not to mention quad SLI scaled horribly, and a single stronger card is usually superior.

4-Way SLI GTX 580, not power efficient, performance scaling not worth it, if you have them, sell them and get a 900 series for better performance per watt.
