4 X 1 @ 4-4-4-12 or 2 X 2 @ 5-5-5-12

Sorry, this questions is asked often, but (I think) I have a variation on the theme:

I have a choice of: 4 X 1GB @ 4-4-4-12 or 2 X 5-5-5-12.
- They are both Patriot Extreme Performance PC2-6400.
- Price difference is about $2.
- I will be trying to squeeze them to 1066.

What's the best way to go? Does it make a difference in real world application?

huh? I'm supposing you mean 4x1GB or 2x2GB.

Go for 2x2GB unless you plan to never upgrade this rig again.
The slight differences in timings won't make a big difference.

get 4x1gb if u dont want to upgrade to 8gb soon ,

get 2x2gb if u want to have 8gb soon
