Hi guys,

I am looking to purchase a new monitor that has VESA mounting. It will be used for gaming especially flight and racing simulators, and some fps. So far I've come down to two choices:

1. 34" Monitor (2560 x 1080) LG :http://www.mwave.com.au/product/lg-34um65p-ips-34-2560-x-1080-5ms-hdmi-dp-professional-led-monitor-ab54821 cost $789.

2. 40" 4K UHD Phillips : ww.mwave.com.au/product/philips-bdm4065uc-40-4k-uhd-monitor-ab58996 $1099.

So basically $300 difference - in my opinion the 40" 4k Monitor seems pretty good for the money, for $300 I get a much bigger screen and 4K resolution. My computer specs are:

ASRock Z77 Extreme4
HAF 912 Advanced
SilverStone ST75F-P 750W PSU
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 670 OC 2GB Video Card
Intel i5 3570K
Samsug 840 Pro Series 256GB
Corsair Vengeance CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9R 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3

As you can see I won't really be able to run games 4k for now. I have two questions:

1. Will I still be able to play games downscaled to 1080p on the 4K monitor with no issues?

2. If I upgrade my graphics card within this year will I be able to run 50-60 fps, medium - high setting on most games at 4k given my motherboard and computer specs or will more upgrades be necessary?

3. What SINGLE graphics card atm runs 4K at 50-60 fps if any?

At the moment I'm leaning towards the 40" 4K Monitor because it seems more bang for buck and I'll be able to use it in the future when 4k is more affordable and practical.

There is no single GPU that can run 4k at 50-60 fps, if you play these fast action and competitive games, I wouldn't go for 4k since you might consider a g sync or 144Hz monitor for that, with $800, you can get the best monitor as of right now, the Asus Swift. You can downscale, but you'll have to tweak with scaling options to fit the picture on the monjtor.

thank you for your input, I am planning on buying a cockpit kind of rig and will be little over 1m from any screen, that is why I am aiming for a 30"+ screen, the larger the better, as it is more immersive for simulation type games.

Well then, I guess the Swift is not for you, I've never tried or looked for monitors above 30 inches, so I'm not sure if they'll be good. I bought a TV instead when I was going bigger in screen size. But if you're going above 30 inches, maybe get a TV too, lol, but I'd not go for 4k because you'll need a $4,000+ rig to run it smoothly.

There are not many 30+ Inch monitors, and the few that exist are usually $800+. That is why I am considering I'll just invest in the 40 Inch Phillips 4K for $300 more, and when its more affordable I could switch to 4k gaming. based on my research many TV's dont have the responsiveness as monitors and those that do would cost just as much as the 40 Inch Phillips, and other high end 1k+ monitors anyway.
