I have the following spec ..cel 400 (128k)
AX6BC 440BX mo/bo
256 SDRAM pc100
8.4gb h/d
Voodoo 3 2000 PCI
pci 64v soundblaster
40 x cd
win 98 se

What speed and how would i clock my chip to a reasoable "stable" speed
taking into consideration i am on a learning curve(somewhere at the bottom i
think). Also would i have to clock the graphics card
The chip details are as follows....
Celeron-B8052
cpu-128SL37x
Malay
L9220912-0166
MC'98

MO/BO Serial No-55.87801.454knk5

Please bear in mind i am a novice but any info will be greatfully received
or a pointer in the correct direction...Thankyou Neil

400 celerons are notorious for being bitches to overclock if not impossible (correct me if I'm wrong). I'd really just keep it where it is - you probably won't get ANY noticable speed difference. You wanna overclock one... get a 566.

Get A Celeron 533 and overclock to 600 @ 2.2volts

I do its true

Cel 533 - 256mb sdram
15gb HD - ati radeon 32mb ddr (200/200)
SB live! mp3+ - win98 Beos

Dear god no... That's a mediocre speed increase.

I know you're probably not intending to buy a new processor, but if you're going for a celeron, if you get a 566 all that's necessary is to switch the FSB from 66 to 100 and you have an 800-somethin' processor. I'm not sure about cooling, tho', so you'd probably want to look into fans.

I remember OCing my 266 celeron to 400. No fans, no nothin'. Those were the days...

hey i just followed the 266 Mhz guy example..

had a 400 MHz that oc. only to 500 (83 FSB)
so i sold it for 50 bucks and got a 266 that works ok at 400 (100 FSB)

Actually it's faster because mobo used to work wit RAM at 66 and now it's 100 :)))
less stress with PCI /AGP too

ahhh, cooling... Retail cooler on the celly and a BIG fan behind blowing air at the proc, also the power source blows air in, at the proc, little 2 fans in front of the HD

that's about all :) no special/expensive cooling

i got some money from this process and i will buy a duron

my celeron 566 won't go 850 (8.5 by 100).it's an oem SL4PC.
even if it POST it hangs up after a while. it uses the OEM fan that goes with it upon purchase. do i need to increase the core voltage (right now, it's 1.7V & it's already 58-59 deg.C)? It sits in a BE6-II, 1-PC100 64MB & 1-PC133 64 MB. I've tried 8.5 by 75 and it seems to be OK. I want to push it at 850 MHz, any piece of advice or comment?
