I'm looking for a new gaming pc. The price needs to include an OS and a monitor. I want to play games at at least 720p-1080p. I want a 1Tb hard drive and maybe a 250gb sad? Thx. 😀

I hate to be the one to give you the bad news but if your title describes your budget then $400 is impossible especially with what you require it to have. The 250gb SSD is about $110, the monitor (just a plain flat panel 23") runs about $140, and the OS, which i'm assuming your going windows, runs you $100-$140 depending on if you go 7 or 8. Just these three things alone get you to $350 at the minimum. You still need a case, Ram, mother board, graphics card, CPU, power supply, and cd or dvd drive. If you don't have a keyboard or mouse then that is more money. I can build a decent PC for around the $600 range but not with the monitor, key board and mouse.

if you want windows, at minimum that is going to be $80. a monitor would be $80 at minimum. that is $160 off your budget which would leave you with only $240 to work with. a 1tb hdd is $50, now you are down to $190. a crappy cheap case is $30. down to $160. even a low end junk psu is going to cost you at least $30 for the size you'd want. down to $130. the amount of ram you'd want runs $50 at minimum. down to $70. you can find a low end processor for that amount.. but you have zero room for a motherboard and a graphics card which means no go.

now, if you used linux instead of windows you might have enough to actually build a system though it is not going to be all that powerful. since you would be using a low end graphics card. keep in mind that linux while it is capable of running some games is not windows and is not quite as easy to get working all the time when it comes to gaming. long story short, $400 for a system including a monitor is not going to get you much.

the other alternative... going with an amd apu.. for about $380-400 you can acutally build a fairly decent APU based system which while it wouldnt perform stellar in games, it would do good enough for low-end gaming. that price does NOT include a monitor.

your best bet honestly is to buy used. you can likely pick up a system which was originally $600 but a year or two old for your budget. or, you could save up a bit longer and have a slightly larger budget to work with in order to build a proper system.

that is not to say you cannot build a pc for $320. you can. easily. however, its not going to play games and is going to be slow.
