hello guys,

I want to build a pc for my friend whose budget is 4000$ plus minus 1000$

Approximate Purchase Date: the closer the better

Budget Range: 3000$-5000$

System Usage from Most to Least Important: games, watching movies and surfing

Parts Not Required: speakers or headphones and keyboard and mouse but he would need a monitor

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: newegg

Country: USA

Parts Preferences: by brand or type : intel cpu, 1600 monitor, a full tower and good looking :D

Overclocking: Yes

SLI or Crossfire: Yes

Monitor Resolution: he wants 30" 2560 x 1600

Additional Comments: a cool quiet pc which looks good and not so much bling and fancy lights

my suggestion to him

intel i7 3820
asus rampage IV extreme
g skill
corsair h100
seasonic x 1250 w 80+ gold
2x sapphire hd 7970
cm cosmos ii
asus blue ray burner
wd carvier black 2 tb
intel 520 240 gb sata3 ssd

what are your thoughts :D

Because we both dont like it and why a 3 screen monitor it feels like you wasting looking only at the front monitor which we both dont like it and those 30" ips looks gorgious.

Other than that 2 will be more than enough for 3 1080p screens ;D

Quad Fire is NOT that effective and it's a waste of money down the drain. Therefore, please go for CrossFire (x2). It's more effective that way...

Regarding Full Tower, why not get one of these? The drive bay is also universal and you can switch it sideways. But, hey... he can also switch off the LED if he doesn't want bling or whatever it is. - http://www.cmstorm.com/en/products/chassis/Trooper_w_side_panel/

Secondly, why not go for Intel i7 - 3930K (3.2GHz) @ 6 Core / 12 threads?

no that is a waste of money. that monitor is so expensive and gives half the resolution of an eyefinity setup. An eyefinity setup is not a waste of money if you run any games at all on the rig. It is really amazing how the picture spans across which actually gives you an edge gaming because you can see so much more than most other players. If you can find a place that demos eyefinity technology go there and try it you will be amazed by it.

I dont know why you picked old generation gpu's. they are slower run hotter and use more energy than 7970's. The H100 is louder and does not cool much better than the Noctua NH-D14. Why does he need windows 7 ultimate and the full version over the oem? Windows 7 professional oem is probably all he needs.

here is a 4900$ build:
https://secure.newegg.com/WishList/MySavedWishDetail.aspx?ID=18915412

-the monitors a toms hardware recommended buys for there superior performance compared to other 24" monitors. They also have very large viewing angles making them perfect for an eyefinity setup.

-you can get the motherboard and the cpu in a combo that will save a few $$. the 3930k is the best gaming cpu on the market. I would stick with the 2011 socket because running the cards at x16/x16 will make a big difference in eyefinity. to save some $$ you can spring for a i7 3820 instead. Just a little harder to overclock since to overclock it to 4.0 ghz and above since it is only partially unlocked.

-the motherboard is arguably the best lga 2011 motherboard on the market. it is a great overclocker (overclocked the highest in tom hardware's 320$+ lga 2011 motherboard roundup) very reliable being a ws board, and low power consumption.

-the ssd is really a coin toss between the samsung 830 256gb and the intel 520 240gb. Both are very reliable and very fast. you cant go wrong with either one.

-the gpu's are pre-overclocked so they will really kill 2 580's. and they are plenty for 5760x1200p considering 2 7950's are barely enough- http://www.hardocp.com/article/2012/01/30/amd_radeon_hd_7950_video_card_review/10

-The case is big enough to hold that huge ws board. another good option is the nzxt switch 810. it doesnt have that many fans in it hence the extras.

-the noctua nh-d14 is the best air cooler on the market. I hate the fan colors so there is a compatible 140mm fan and 120mm too.

What is your source on this? I have *NOT* heard any firm, concrete release dates from anywhere, and the response from even NVIDIA themselves is "pushed back", until I see a firm date, I'm not believing anything.

Here's how I would spend $3K - $4K:

Case: Cooler Master Cosmos II - $349.99
PSU: Seasonic X1050 Gold - $219.99
Motherboard: Asus sabertooth X79 - $329.99
CPU: 3.6GHz Intel Core i7-3820 - $319.99
Cooler: Noctua NH-D14 - $85.99
RAM: G.Skill Ares 16GB (4 x 4GB) 1600MHz 1.5V - $89.99
SSD: 128GB Crucial M4 - $174.99
HD: Samsung Ecogreen F4 2TB - $149.99
Optical: LG BD-R Burner - $79.99
Video Card: 2 x Sapphire Radeon HD 7970 - $534.99 each
OS: Windows 7 Pro - $139.99
Monitor: Asus VH242H - $179.99

Total: $2,870.98

I don't include the peripherals like speakers, keyboard, mouse, etc because that's all entirely personal preference.

Gunit....Stores in INDIA have already received cards...Expect Thursday release like people have been saying for a month....

And I won't even comment on his build...Ivy is out Friday/and Kepler Thursday..might as well wait till the end of the weak..

So far all I have seen is some crazy choices by the OP that don't make any sense. Last gen gpu's with 7970 out there...Physx shouldn't be your your buying decision imo.

7970 is a last gen GPU? I don't get that. :pt1cable:

Yeah that's not a good choice - that's like building an $18K build with the most expensive parts and calling it a Ferrari where a far, far less expensive Buick is considered a luxury car.
