Just wanted to put in my 2.0 bits. Firstly I think Intel is nuts for even bothering to honor the contract with SUCKBUS I mean RAMBUS. They should just let RAMBUS sue them, drag it out in court endlessly and release a PROPER chipset. What is wrong with Bugzilla NE WAY!?! AMD deserves alot of credit for taking on the behemoth that is *ntel and holding their own. The Athlon is a great chip, ne1 that has used an Athlon/Duron system knows that. Yep I have used CrashTel systems for years and years and liked them, but no more. Athlon system with Win2k=great system. PIV=giant failure. Look out 2001 for *ntel is going to even worse.

As far as you have been told by AMD the current originated BUS architecture supporting the Duron and TBird chips is able to reach in excess of 400 Mhz and is stable at 400 MHz. AMD is currently working on and testing chips that utilize DDR SDRAM 2100 at 266 MHZ FSB same bus as CPU no funny double clock cycles single cycle 266 MHz. The new so cold Pentium 4's use a trick to up the cycle speeds such as the current AMD Atholons due for the 200 MHz fsb. I am currently in possesion of such AMD hardware not of course able to offer any numbers but letting you know that your AMD manufacturer is not going to let you down. The future products / next gen CPU's and Mobo chipsets from AMD are nothing but excellent! AMD is also working on several very/very/very high tech CPU's that I hear Intel is going to try and mimic. Just lets say that AMD is a serious competiter and leader of CPU based systems and will be for a long time to come.

Well, have to agree with you.

Although I am an AMD fan here.
But I really doubt if AMD can come up with something signicantly faster, you know!

By design, the multiplier of Athlon is limited at 12.5, meaning that with 100MHz bus, it goes at 1250MHz. Going beyond 12.5 gives barely anything to the performance of the system. Because of that, I don't think AMD will set any multiplier higher than 12.5

Then, AMD's best bet is SDRAM PC133. The maximum Athlon will be 133*12.5 = 1666MHz. Even if they manage to get SDRAM PC150, we could only see Athlon at 1875MHz.

So sad, because Intel has announcing plans for Pen 4 at 2GHz.

Plz show me a mobo, that takes 400 MHz of FSB.
Nowadays it would fcrumble to dust in a matter of seconds.
The only good solution known to me, is the implementation of Fibrechannel technologie.
AND THIS COULD MEAN:
Processorspeed is FRONTSIDEBUS
Think about this:
2000 MHz Processor AND 2000 MHz FSB!!!!!!!!!!!!

But that will take till the evolution has edvanced enough.
 
After reading the newest news before finding this post Ive discovered that the ddrsdram may nave a new archetecture that will allow lower cost to produce and better speeds utilizing the ability to read and write on the rise and fall of the clock cycle. Sounds alot like quad pumped to me (since 266 is now a reality) I believe the new question may be will the thunderbird and the new Via 233 be able to utilize this or will we need to ask Santa for a new box next year. Being someone just about to lay out the dough it is a interesting dilema. By the way my info source is Toms new front page.

Anyways, the P4 doesn't have a 400MHz bus. If it does, then why doesn't the 1.5GHz run at 6GHz? (15x multiplier times 400MHz bus = 6000MHz). No, it has a quadpumped (QDR) 100MHz bus. The multiplier (14 or 15) is multiplied by 100 (to give 1.4GHz and 1.5GHz).

Call it a 100Mhz QDR or quadpumped 100Mhz or 3.2GB/sec QDR bus, whatever you want, just don't call it a 400MHz bus. Same goes for AMD. It isn't a 200 / 266MHz bus, it is a 100 / 133MHz bus with DDR (1.6GB/sec, 2.1GB/sec).
